The points table doesn't matter anymore. This is semi-final stage of the WBBL 2019-20 and no team can afford to slip.
Adelaide Strikers Women vs Perth Scorchers Women will be the first semi-final of the season as the No.2 and No.3 placed teams of the league stage will take on each other. Both the teams met twice in the group stage and both beat each other once. And it will be interesting to see who gets ahead in this all-important knock-out game.
Adelaide Strikers Women lost their last league game to Sydney Sixers Women which ended their 6-game winning spree. But that shouldn't be worrying about them too much. With Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates in their batting line up, they have the two best batters of the league and will be posing a tough challenge to the opposition.
Perth Scorchers Women too has a solid batting line up. But on overall balance, the Adelaide Strikers does have the better team. And thus, they will be having a slight edge in this semi-final clash.

Adelaide Strikers Women have been one of the best teams of this season and were at the top of the table before the loss in the final league game against Sydney Sixers Women brought them down to the 2nd spot. However, they still have enough arsenal to make it to the finals.
Sophie Devine's unbelievable form has been one of the highlights of the season for Adelaide Strikers. The opener is now closing in on a sensational 700 runs for the season - she is on 699 runs from 14 matches - and simply refuses to stop. Even in the team's loss in the previous match, she was the highest scorer with a fluent 60 and has now been rightly adjudged Player of the Tournament. Adelaide Strikers would hope that she continues her form.
Captain Suzie Bates (297 runs) too has led from the front at the top. This opening duo has been one of the most formidable pairs in this season and might pose a serious challenge during the semi-final game. The other two batters who can make an impact are Bridget Patterson (291 runs) and Tahlia McGrath (258 runs).
On the bowling front, Adelaide Strikers Women has plenty of options. Sarah Coyte (17 wickets), Amanda Wellington (16 wickets), Sophie Devine (16 wickets) and Megan Schutt (13 wickets) have been the consistent performers for the team and provide a dependable bowling unit. The slow pitch here might suit them and they could prove lethal for Perth Scorchers.

Perth Scorchers Women would be feeling good after registering a comfortable 29-run win in their last league game against Hobart Hurricanes Women. After a poor performance with the bat in the game before that, they needed a good win under the belt before the important semi-finals.
Perth's batting has been good this season with captain Meg Lanning leading the charge. The opener scored a sublime 101 off 67 balls in the last league game against Hobart and has taken her tally for the season to 530 runs in 14 games. Lanning might well prove to be the game-changer in the semis.
However, Perth will badly miss the services of Natalie Sciver (342 runs) and Amy Ellen Jones (391) who had been the dependable performers for the team. With both of them gone for national duty, this leaves a gaping hole in Perth's batting.
Opener Nicole Bolton and Kim Garth would have to take the bulk of the responsibility now.
Perth's bowling has good variety with almost everyone being among the wickets. Heather Graham (15 wickets) and Kim Garth (13 wickets), the team's main seam bowlers, have done a commendable job and will be looked at again to deliver the goods in the semis. Taneale Peschel had a good spell in the last match and so did Samantha Betts.

The pitch at Allan Border Field, Brisbane, is a true surface. Seamers get help early on and batters would enjoy batting after setting in. The team batting first would target a total of 140-150 which might well turn out to be a match-winning one on this pitch. The weather for the match is expected to be bright and sunny and we can have a full 40-over game.
The Allan Border Field, Brisbane, has traditionally been a good batting surface but chasing here can be good too if the weather remains bright. The average score batting first here is 145 while the average score batting second is 149. Expect a tight low-scoring game for the semis.
The team winning the toss would like to bat first and post a healthy total on board. As its a knock-out game and the pressure of a chase would be too much.
In the last 5 games between Adelaide Strikers Women and Perth Scorchers Women, Adelaide has on 3 games and lost 2. While both the teams have been in good form throughout the WBBL 2019-20 season, Adelaide looks like the more sorted and better all-round outfit. Moreover, with an in-form and perhaps the best batting lineup in the tournament, they certainly would be confident of making it through to the finals. Sophie Devine alone gives them an edge in the semis.
Perth Scorcher, meanwhile, has been dented badly with the unavailability of Natalie Sciver and Amy Ellen Jones and that certainly digs a gaping hole in their batting unit. This, along with their not-so-great bowling performance in the season, does make things difficult for Perth. And it would take a rather special team effort for them to get past the strong Adelaide Strikers outfit.
We thus back the Adelaide Strikers Women to win the 1st semi-final of the WBBL 2019-20!
