Afghanistan to win this game!

Afghanistan would take on Ireland in the first of the three-match T20 series at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. The Afghan side which has been hosting most of its home series in India has good knowledge about the conditions and had done well against West Indies in the last series.
Ireland too comes here after a good tour of the West Indies as far as T20 cricket is concerned. Ireland has an extremely poor record against Afghanistan in this format of the game and they have not defeated them even once in the last seven years. Given that the track is expected to offer assistance to the spinners it will be a tough ask for the Irish side.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, is playing in the condition that suits their style of play and would look to draw advantage of it and take an early lead in the series.

Asghar Afghan returns as skipper to lead the side and he would be expecting to start with a bang. The side has won the last five bilateral series they have played and this will add to their confidence level. Asghar Afghan would want his team to maintain the excellent record they have against the Irish side.
The batting line-up looks strong for the side with Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz at the top and both these players have good hitting abilities. Karim Janat, Asghar Afghan and Usman Ghani make the middle order look formidable.
The bowling attack looks formidable for the side with Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Naveen-ul-Haq opening the bowling for the side. They would eye early wickets in the game. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan would enjoy bowling in these conditions and are likely to trouble Irish batsmen in the game. With Gulbadin Naib filling the role of the fifth bowler their bowling attack looks strong.
Karim Janat, Asghar Afghan, Gulbadin Naib, Hazratullah Zazai, Samiullah Shenwari, Shapoor Zadran, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, N Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Andrew Balbirnie’s side had a good tour of the West Indies in the T20 leg of the series which they drew against their stronger opponents. The side would like to draw inspiration from that and play well in the first game of this series. It won’t be easy given the conditions are likely to favor the Afghans but Balbirnie would want to end their losing run against Afghanistan to an end. Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien form a destructive opening combination at the top and the two will need to play well for the side to win.
It will be a moment of truth for Shane Getkate who needs to establish himself. Balbirnie, Gareth Delany, Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker make the batting line-up formidable for the side with Simi Singh and Barry McCarthy also having good abilities with the bat towards the end of the innings. Boyd Rankin and Joshua Little must pick wickets with the new ball as their opponents have a very strong batting line-up at the top. Barry McCarthy needs to support them well with his medium pacers in the middle overs. However, lot would depend on how the two spinners Simi Singh and Gareth Delany bowl as they have to take advantage of the spin-friendly conditions.
Simi Singh, CA Young, George Dockrell, Joshua Little, Paul Stirling, Kevin O'Brien, WB Rankin, Lorcan Tucker, Gareth Delany, Harry Tector, Andy Balbirnie

There are chances of showers on March 06 at Noida and it is largely expected to be overcast. In such conditions the bowlers might enjoy some assistance and the batsmen will need to be watchful. The side that bats first would be targeting a score in the upward of 150 runs to feel comfortable on this surface.
Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground is a small venue and the wicket is known to be a good one to bat on. The ball comes on to the bat nicely and this allows batsmen to play their strokes. There isn’t much on this track for the fast bowlers but spinners have done well here as the ball grips the surface and turns sharply.
There are predictions for rain during the game and batting conditions won’t be perfect at the start of the game. If the overs are cut short the side that chases the score would have an advantage. Hence we believe this is a win the toss bowl first kind of scenario for this game.
Ireland is coming into this game with a bad record against Afghanistan. They had last defeated the side in 2013 and the Afghans are definitely a much stronger side now. The Irish side hasn’t been consistent over the course of the last two years or so.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, boasts of having seasoned T20 players in the side. In these spin-friendly conditions they would start from a point of advantage and be favorites to win the game.
