With a 1-0 lead in the ongoing 3-match series, Afghanistan delivered what was expected of them in this format. The Asghar Afghan-led side would be thanking the rain gods to turn the tide in their favor as they won the previous contest by a margin of 11-runs with the DLS method coming into play in the second innings.
The trio of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (28), Najibullah Zadran (42) and Rashid Khan (3/22) played crucial roles for their side in the last match and will be banked heavily to exhibit similar show for the remaining matches of the series, especially in the second T20I which can help them take 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Ireland would be disappointed with the way things turned out in the last T20I and would look to better their bowling standards in the must-win duel. Once again, the onus would be on experienced campaigners namely - Paul Stirling, Kevin O Brien, and skipper Andrew Balbirnie to get their team to a competitive total. Off-spinner Simi Singh (2/18) was the biggest positive with the ball and will be a vital cog for the Irish unit.

The opening duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (28) and Hazratullah Zazai (23) set the tone for Afghanistan in the rain-affected encounter. The duo capitalized on the powerplays by smashing a flurry of boundaries since their arrival onto the crease. Although skipper Asghar Afghan and Karim Janat fell cheaply in the previous T20I, they would still hold vital positions with the bat in the middle-overs and will look to level up the scoring ability. In the middle-order, Samiullah Shinwari (28) and Najibullah Zadran (48) stitched a match-winning partnership that got their side past the victory margin.
Their right-hand left-hand combination is something the Irish bowlers would find hard to crack in case they are well set in the middle. Mohammad Nabi didn’t get a chance to showcase his big-hitting ability and would be eager to get the textbook shots to display in the highly coveted encounter.
Leggie Rashid Khan (3/22) grabbed match-winning figures for Afghanistan and would be spearheading the bowling attack. Mujeeb Ur Raman and Shapoor Zadran had a forgetful day with the ball and will be vying to scalp economical numbers in the forthcoming bout. Not to mention, Gulbadin Naib’s pace prowess can pose a threat for Ireland in the middle-overs and affect the crucial dismissals.

Openers Paul Stirling (60) and Kevin O Brien (35) rendered a top-notch show in the first few overs and will be the key players for Ireland in the second T20I. The duo’s experience of the white-ball format is something that can get their side the needed triumph. Batting at No 3, skipper Andrew Balbirnie (29) played a gritty knock and will be hoping to acquire those extra 20-25 runs during his stay in the middle. Harrey Tector (29*) was the only positive in the middle order, while Lorcan Tucker and Gareth Daleny were dismissed for petty totals.
Bowling wise, spinner Simi Singh (2/18) was an absolute ripper with his off-breaks and doosras. While he will be Ireland’s go-to man after the powerplays, the task of ensuring the early breakthroughs would be on the pace duo of Joshua Little and Craig Young. Spinner George Dockrell had a mediocre performance in the previous contest and would be waiting to bounce back stronger in the second T20I.

It will be a hazy day at Noida with the temperature hovering between 22-24 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels will be as high as 54 percent in the later stages of the game.
The wicket at Greater Noida Sports Complex has usually been a batter’s delight. In spite of the overcast conditions and the rains in the lately concluded outing, the teams managed to score 172 and 133 in the first and second innings. Bowlers will have a role to play in the game throughout and will be hoping to make the most of the cloud cover.
The toss winning team should look to bat first on this occasion. The cloud cover in the second half would make it difficult for the batters as there will be much swing and seam movement. One can expect a scoreline between 150-160 in the first innings.
Afghanistan will go as the sure-shot favorites in the second T20I. They are well familiar with the Indian tracks and with some of their players enjoying a terrific run in the T20s, it shouldn’t be surprising if they manage to outshine Ireland by gigantic margins in the must-win encounter.
Not to forget, they have earlier whitewashed the Windies in the 3-match T20Is held in India a few months back and would be looking to replicate the same, this time against Ireland.
We are expecting Afghanistan to win!
