Ireland aim to keep series alive against Afghanistan
Expect Afghanistan to clinch ODI series against Ireland.

Afghanistan and Ireland will lock horns in the second game of the one-day series at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
In the opening game, Afghanistan registered a 17-run win over Ireland, courtesy excellent performances from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rashid Khan. With this result, Afghanistan have taken 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
On the other hand, Ireland will need to make significant improvements in order to stage a strong comeback in this series. Captain Andrew Balbirnie will be hoping that the side can learn from their mistakes made in the previous game.

In the opening game, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Debutant Rahmanullah Gurbaz showed fluency with the bat and managed to put on a 120-run partnership with Javed Ahmadi.
For Afghanistan, wicket-keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the standout performer with the bat. The 19-year old played exceedingly well and finished the innings with the top-score of 127 runs off 127 balls with the help of eight boundaries and nine sixes.
Rashid Khan played well and notched up his fifth half-century in limited-overs cricket. He scored 55 runs off 30 balls with the help of two boundaries and five sixes.
From crucial efforts from Rashid Khan and Najibullah Zadran, Afghanistan managed to post a competitive score of 287 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying heavily on spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi to make crucial breakthroughs.
Pacer Naveen ul Haq claimed three wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan bowled well and claimed two wickets apiece.

Despite losing the opening game, Ireland will not make any changes to their playing XI for this game.
After losing the toss against Afghanistan, new-ball pair of Barry McCarthy and Craig Young bowled poorly in the initial 10 overs.
Due to splendid opening partnership from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Javed Ahmadi, Afghanistan dominated the proceedings after being placed at 120 for no loss after 21 overs.
Off-spinner Andy McBrine ran through the middle-order and claimed five wickets in a space of nine overs. Besides McBrine, Simi Singh, Gareth Delaney and Simi Singh claimed one wicket each.
Chasing 288 runs for victory, Kevin O’Brien perished for a low score to see Ireland lose their first wicket in the third over. Captain Andrew Balbirnie looked fluent in his innings and perished after scoring 15 runs off 18 balls.
Opener Paul Stirling also failed to capitalize on his good start and perished after producing a fluent 39 runs off 40 balls with the help of six fours.
With the dismissal of Stirling, Ireland were in deep trouble at 88 for 4 after 17.1 overs, wicket-keeper Lorcan Tucker and Curtis Campher led the fightback with 86-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
For Ireland, wicket-keeper Lorcan Tucker produced a valiant innings with the bat. He scored 83 runs off 96 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.
Despite crucial runs from Simi Singh and Craig Young, Ireland lost the game by 17 runs and could only score 271 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their full quota of overs.

With sunny weather expected for Sunday’s game, the pitch is expected to be dry and will assist the spinners. The batsmen will have to be more pro-active at the crease in the initial powerplay overs against the pace bowlers.
