The in-form Pakistan side will take on minnow Afghanistan in the 36th match of cricket world cup 2019 at Headingley ground in Leeds on Saturday. Pakistan is brimming with confidence following their successive win against two formidable sides of the tournament - South Africa and New Zealand. In the previous game, men in green beat New Zealand by 6 wickets and end the winning streak for Kiwis. In the chase, Babar Azam showed his class, smashed unbeaten century on the tricky pitch. He has been in amazingly consistent nick throughout the tournament; scored 333 runs from six innings. Earlier in the first inning, young pacer Shaheen Afridi laid the foundation for the win. The pacer ripped through New Zealand top-order. He picked three crucial wickets and just conceded 28 runs in his 10 over spell. The middle-order batsman, Haris Sohail has put the strong barrier for the opponent in the previous two games. He scored impressive 68 runs versus kiwis and put the match-winning partnership of 126 runs with Babar Azam. Pakistan stand a chance of making it to the playoffs but likely they need to win all their remaining two games, starting with this one. Sarfaraz and co will be eying for another clinical performance to win this game by a massive margin.
On the other hand, Afghanistan lost all seven of their previous fixture in the 2019 world cup. In the previous game, they lost to Bangladesh by 62 runs. Mujjeb ur Rahman bowled a good spell, he picked three wickets versus Bangladesh. Gulbadin led side are really struggling to fight against top teams in the tournament. Their batsmen did not show the temperament to set up a decent total and neither opponent batsmen faced any resistance from Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, and Mohamed Nabi. Their star players Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have also struggled in English conditions as the opposing teams have been able to get through their overs without much trouble. Though Afghanistan has been knocked out of the tournament, will be playing for pride against Pakistan.

Sarfarz and co. were excellent against Kiwis in last game; they ticked all the boxes for an imperative win. Their key batsman, Babar Azam has been in tremendous form in the tournament, he is scoring consistently for Pakistan. Pakistan is also heavily relying on him to play the long inning and hold one batting end. He has scored 1283 runs in last 28 ODI innings at an average of 55.78 and is currently 8th ranked ICC ODI batsman. The openers, Imam-ul-Haq, and Fakar Zaman showed some class in the earlier games, but they need to convert it to match winning inning.
The biggest positive for Pakistan is the form of Harish Sohail. He played a very crucial inning in the previous two games in the middle order. He got great power and skills, which is very vital in the end overs.
On the bowling front, Pakistan pacer comprising Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi, and Wahab Riaz did a remarkable job to restrict the opponent on the lesser score. Mohammed Amir has bowled really well and was Pakistan’s best bowler thus far in the tournament. He’s picked up 16 wickets so far and has looked in excellent rhythm. Shadab Khan and Mohammed Hafeez also offer useful spin variety in the middle overs.

Playing in their second World Cup, Afghanistan will be eager to post their first win in the ongoing 50-over showpiece. ICC third-ranked ODI bowler Rashid Khan is having below average world cup so far, he hasn’t been able to produce any match-winning spell. Afghanistan is relying heavily on their key player – Rashid Khan, Mohammed Nabi, and Hashmatullah Shahidi. They are the match winners who can turn the game on their own and prove pivotal to their team's fortunes.
Mohammad Nabi is undoubtedly one of the best all-rounder’s in the world at the moment. With 2681 runs and 125 wickets to his name in 119 ODI matches. He picked seven wickets so far in the tournament and scored a crucial run versus India. His good form is very pivotal for Afghanistan success against Pakistan.
Pace bowling unit will be lead by skipper Gulbadin Naib. He is leading wicket-taker for Afghanistan, picked nine wickets from seven games so far. Mujeeb Ur Rahman also bowled outstandingly in last game. He picked five wickets so far from his five games in the tournament. Another pacer, Dwalat Zadran needs to be more disciplined against strong Pakistan batting line-up.

Headingley, Leeds is set to host its second match of the tournament on Saturday. It is expected to be a sunny day at Leeds on June 29. The wicket prepared for the game will provide an even contest between the bat and ball. The first match between England and Sri Lanka at the same venue was a low scoring encounter. England lost the match chasing a score of 232.
Hence both the teams will be looking to win the toss and bat first on this surface. The batting will not be easy as spinners might get a considerable amount of turn in the second half of the game. We anticipate the team winning toss will definitely wish to bat first.
Pakistan has been playing top class cricket in all aspects of the game. Their batsmen and bowlers are in outstanding form and delivered consistently in the last couple of games. On the other hand, Afghanistan would be confident from the fact they have won their last game against Pakistan. But they will need to play out of their skin to win this contest. Thus, Men in Green will start as clear favourites against Afghanistan. We predict Pakistan will win this match.
