West Indies to win this game

Afghanistan’s 41 run win over West Indies in the second T20 of the three-match series has set up an interesting contest for the final game. With the two teams leveled 1-1 it is a winner takes it all contest. The win would have boosted the confidence of the Afghan side that had lost the ODI series 3-0 in what were one sided games. The West Indies team would also like to recover from the loss of the last game and dominate the Afghan side like they did in the earlier games of the series. It has been a bad run for Afghanistan in the recent games in this format with their last win coming after four consecutive losses. The team has failed to play well as a unit in most of the games and would need a spirited effort to edge past the confident West Indies side in the next game. It will be an interesting contest where none of the teams will be willing to drop their guard.

Rashid Khan would be excited after the kind of performance his side put up in the last game. The series has so far only been able losses for the side. They batted well and were brilliant when it came to their bowling. Going into the series decider the skipper would want his side to repeat the same magic as they did in the last game. Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave a positive start in the last game and the side would expect the same from them. Karim Janat played well and shall look to repeat his good show. The side will be expecting runs from its experienced middle order of Ibrahim Zardan, Asghar Afghan and Najibullah Zardan. Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib possess good hitting abilities and they will look to do well in the game. Karim Janat bowled a match winning spell in the last game and shall look to repeat the same form. In the series so far Mujeeb ur Rahman has done well and shall look to continue with the form. The side would need good spells from the experienced Rashid Khan and Nabi who haven’t been at their best so far.

Kieron Pollard’s side suffered a shocking defeat in the last game against the run of play. Their batting which has been winning them games so far on this tour had a bad day leading to the loss. Pollard would want his players to put that behind and aim at clinching the series 2-1 in the next game. The opening pair of Brandon King and Evin Lewis has done well in the series so far and needs to provide another good start to the side. In the middle overs the side has got good power hitters in the form of Shimron Hetmyer, Denesh Ramdin and Sherfane Rutherford. Pollard and Jason Holder towards the end give edge to the side as far as batting is concerned and they would be looking to do the big hitting. It has been a good series so far for the West Indian bowling attack. Sheldon Cottrell has given nervous moments to the Afghans. Jason Holder and Kesrick Williams have also impressed and bowling economical spells. Having Hayden Walsh and Keemo Paul in the attack makes them a tough attack to score against.

The skies would be clear at Lucknow on November 17 and this would make conditions good for batting. The pitch hasn’t been a batsmen’s paradise as the ball has stopped a bit on the surface. We expect another close contest between the bat and the ball where a score of 150 runs would be a good one to defend.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow is a good ground for batsmen who are selective with stroke making. The odd ball stops and the spinners have done well at this venue. The straight boundaries are long and hence batsmen have to time their shots well at this venue.
In both the games played so far the side batting first has won the game. Though there is the dew factor it is affecting bowlers on both the sides. The pitch has been used for many games and is likely to slow down towards the end and hence the side winning the toss would like to bat first.
The last game in the series produced the first real contest between the two sides. Afghanistan gave West Indies a run for its money and won the game easily in the end. This would have boosted the confidence in the Afghan camp. West Indies on the other hand had an off day but they are a much better side than the Afghans in this format and this would make them favorites to win this one and take the series 2-1.
