The ODIs and T20s now over, Afghanistan and West Indies would now battle it out in the only Test Match of the series. It has been nicely built-up with the West Indies side winning the ODI series 3-0 and the Afghans coming from behind to take the T20 series 2-1.
It will be the first-ever Test Match between the two sides and the fourth game in this format for Afghanistan after the side earned its Test status last year. Afghanistan has surprised everyone with their win in the last Test Match against Bangladesh where the side played well to register a massive win.
West Indies come here having lost the last Test series at home to India 0-2. Given that the conditions are likely to be spin-friendly in this game it will be a big test for the West Indies side going into the game with no big name in the spin department in their line-up.

Rashid Khan would have enjoyed the series win in the T20s. They made a strong comeback to win the series and the skipper would like his side to carry the momentum in the Test Match.
In this format, the side would count its changes given the expected nature of the track which will suit their bowling style. Their batsmen will have to play well especially against the new ball. A lot would depend on how openers Javed Ahmadi and Ibrahim Zadran approach the new game. The middle-order for the side is strong with players like Asghar Afghan and Rahmat Shah. The likes of Afsar Zazai and Ikram Ali Khil will have to focus on building partnerships in the game for the side to set up a good total on the board. In the bowling department, the new ball bowlers Yamin Ahmadzai and Dawlat Zadran will have to pick early wickets.
The West Indies top order isn’t in the best of form and they need to exploit this. Rashid Khan will be key to victory for the Afghan side and him along with the young spinner Zia-ur-Rehman will look to take advantage of the conditions.
Zahir Khan, Nasir Jamal, Javed Ahmadi, Asghar Afghan, Amir Hamza, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Rashid Khan, Yamin Ahmadzai, Ihsanullah, Afsar Zazai

Jason Holder has a huge task on his hand given his side’s failure in the last series at home against the Indians. Batsmen had let the side down in that series and the skipper would want them to play well in this one. Holder would know the strength of Afghanistan’s spin bowling and shall want his side to focus on building partnerships in the game. Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell have to deliver at the top after their failure against India.
They will need to focus on building a good partnership at the start of the game. In the middle order Shamarh Brooks, Shai Hope and Roston Chase have the big challenge of negotiating Afghan spinners. With Holder down the order, the side packs decent strength in its batting. Jason Holder and Kemar Roach will need to pick wickets with the new ball. If there is one major weakness for the Afghan side it is their ability against the new ball. Alzarri Joseph will have to do well as first change. Rahkeem Cornwall has to take advantage of the conditions and pick wickets in the middle for the side to win this game.

The skies over Lucknow would be clear on all the five days of the game. The pitch would be a good one to bat on the first two days of the game though the fast bowlers would get some assistance in the morning session. From Day 3 onward spinners are likely to get sharp turn and bounce on this surface where batsmen will need to be choosy with their shot selection.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow is a good Test Match venue where it is good to bat on the first two days of the game while the spinners start get sharp turn and bounce in the latter half of the game. The fast bowlers have to bend their back and make good use of the morning session to do well here.
The wicket will be a typical sub-continental track where batting would become a big challenge for the side as the game progresses and the pitch gets rough. The side that wins the toss would like to take advantage of this by batting first on this surface.
Afghanistan is a young side as far as Test cricket is concerned and this game would be their fourth overall. But the side has taken giant strides in the limited appearances they have had in this format.
West Indies come into this game after a poor home series against India and have a bad record in the sub-continent over the course of their last few tours. While it is tough to choose between the two sides at the moment Afghanistan would start nose ahead given their strength in spin bowling on a surface that would assist spinners.
