Host Australia will be looking to make a strong comeback when they take on India in the 3rd Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy at Sydney Cricket Ground from Thursday.
With the four-match series evenly poised at 1-1, Australia will have plenty of concerns going into this match. David Warner is still doubtful for the third Test as he must clear the fitness Test. Captain Tim Paine will be hoping that experienced players can raise their game and deliver the goods with bat and ball.

The home side might one or two changes to their playing XI for this game. Will Pucovski might come in place of Joe Burns, who has been dropped from the Test squad for the final game of the series.

Australia’s premier batsman has perished for low scores in the first two matches of the Test series.For Australia to deliver a strong show with the bat, Smith certainly has to lead the charge in the batting department.
Marnus Labuschagne has also failed to score a half-century in the first two games of the series. He currently is Australia’s leading run-scorer with 129 runs at an average of 32.25. The team management will be hoping that Labuschagne can deliver a big score at Sydney Cricket Ground.
The likes of Cameron Green, Travis Head and Captain Tim Paine will need to contribute with the bat for Australia.
In the bowling department, the pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins will need to make early inroads with the new-ball. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon will certainly enjoy the conditions at Sydney Cricket Ground, which generally favors the spinners.

The visitors bowling resources will be challenged as pacer Umesh Yadav ruled out of the remainder of the Test series due to calf injury. Uncapped pacer T Natarajan has been named as a replacement into the Test squad for the final two matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Navdeep Saini or T Natarajan might make their Test debut for India in the third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground.
In the absence of Virat Kohli, the onus will be on the experienced duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane to deliver the bulk of the runs. In the Boxing Day Test, Cheteshwar Pujara failed to capitalize on his good start and perished after scoring 17 runs.
Interim captain Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with the bat and notched up is 12th century for India in the Boxing Day Test played at Melbourne. He played exceedingly well and top-scored for India with 112 runs off 223 balls with the help of twelve boundaries. The visitors will be hoping that Rahane can continue his rich vein of form in this game as well.
Debutant Shubman Gill showed excellent temperament and technique to produced crucial scores of 45 and 35 not respectively. His opening partner, Mayank Agarwal, will under the spotlight after failing to produce a notable score in the first two games of the series.
The likes of Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with crucial runs for Australia. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 57 runs off 159 balls, whereas Pant and Vihari scored 29 and 21 runs respectively.
In the bowling department, the onus will be likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to make crucial breakthroughs. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be premier spinners for the side for Sydney Test.
