After achieving a lot of success against West Indies and Pakistan, New Zealand will be looking to maintain their winning streak in home conditions, when they take on Australia in the first of five-match T20I series to be played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday.
Host New Zealand have announced their full-strength for the five-match series. Scott Kuggeleijn, Ross Taylor, Tom Blundell and Todd Astle have been dropped, while the likes of Devon Conway, Mark Chapman have been retained after doing well against Pakistan in the T20I series.
On the other hand, Australia have rewarded players who did exceedingly well in this year’s Big Bash League. With David Warner, Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins rested for the T20I series, there will be opportunities for young players to showcase their talent with bat and ball against New Zealand.

The home side will be sweating over the fitness of Martin Guptill, who is suffering from hamstring. The selectors have included in the squad and given him time to recover from injury. Uncapped batsman Finn Allen has been as a reserve player in case Guptill is ruled out of the T20I series.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips and Tim Seifert to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Wicket-keeper Tim Seifert has been a consistent performer for New Zealand at the top of the innings. In 19 T20I matches, Seifert has accumulated 487 runs at an average of 32.46 with four half-centuries to their name.
Last year, Glenn Phillips also delivered match-winning performances for New Zealand. In a game against West Indies, Phillips broke the record for the fastest hundred by New Zealand batsman in the 20-over format.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the pace trio of Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Kyle Jamieson to provide crucial breakthroughs.
Since Feb 2019, Pacer Tim Southee is leading the bowling charts for New Zealand in the T20 format. In 17 matches, Southee has claimed 20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.96.
Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi will be prominent spinners for the side for this series.
Aaron Finch, Daniel Sams, Jhye Richardson, KW Richardson, Ashton Agar, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Philippe, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Marsh
On the other hand, Australia will be without their premier players like David Warner, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Steve Smith, who have been rested for the trans-tasman series.
Aaron Finch will lead the side for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Uncapped batsman Josh Philippe and spinner Tanveer Sangha have earned their maiden call-up to the national side for the T20I series.
In the absence of Warner and Smith, the likes of Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and D’Arcy Short will have a great opportunity to make an impression with the bat and cement their place in the T20I squad.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Aaron Finch to get the side off to good starts. The middle duo of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis will be given the task of producing big runs in the last 10 overs of the innings.
In the bowling department, the new-ball pair of Jason Behrendroff and Kane Richardson will be keen to make early inroads for Australia. Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa will be certain starters in the XI for this game.
