Australian team would be in a positive frame of mind as they take on Pakistan in the 1st T20 of the three-match T20 series in Sydney. The team has just mauled Sri Lanka 3-0 in the recently concluded series where their players looked in incredible form especially their top order. Pakistan, on the other hand, is going through a transition and is being led by a new captain. The come here after having suffered a humiliating 0-3 whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka at home.
Pakistan team has been struggling for form in this format. For the #1 ranked T20 side in the world four losses in the last five games don’t help their reputation. They have failed to play as a unit in recent games. As they take on a confident Australian side they will need to come up with a special performance to beat them. Pakistan looked in good form in the practice game winning it comfortably and this would make the next game interesting.

It has been a great start to the summer for Aaron Finch’s side and he would be proud of the way his side played against Sri Lanka. They demolished the visitors in all the three games which were one-sided affairs. As they begin a new series against Pakistan, Finch would want his players to carry on with the same form. David Warner and Aaron Finch scored more than 300 runs between them in the three games and shall want to carry the same form. Steven Smith has also scored runs.
While the middle order hardly got a chance to bat they have good players in the form of Ben McDermott, Aston Turner, and Alex Carey. Aston Agar also has good hitting abilities down the order for the side. The bowling attack performed brilliantly in the last series. Mitchell Starc and Kane Richardson look in great form with the ball and so is Pat Cummins. These three would pose a big threat to the Pakistani batting line-up. Adam Zampa and agar complete a good bowling attack for the side.
AJ Turner, Aaron Finch, Pat Cummins, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, KW Richardson, Ashton Agar, Ben McDermott, Steven Smith, Adam Zampa, David Warner
Babar Azam is making his debut as a full-time skipper and he would want to get started with a win. His team did well in the practice game and would carry that confidence into the next game. It would be a big test for the side given the kind of form Australia is in at the moment and require special efforts from the whole team. The side would need a good start from Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman at the top against the tight line that Australian bowlers would bowl at them. Haris Sohail, Mohammad Rizwan and Asif Ali will need to hold their ground in the middle overs and lay the perfect platform for the likes of Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim to launch the final assault during the game.
The bowling attack is strong for the side with the three front line pacers Mohammad Aamir, Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz having a great amount of experience. It will be important for Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim to check the flow of runs during the middle overs and keep applying pressure on the Australian side.
Mohammad Amir, SI Wasim, Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, F Zaman, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Irfan, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Wahab Riaz, Iftikhar Ahmed
There is forecast for rain at Sydney on November 03 and the weather would be overcast. This would make conditions difficult for batting where the fast bowlers are likely to exploit the conditions. The side that bats first would have to preserve its wickets against the new ball and target a score in excess of 150 runs.
The Sydney Cricket Ground isn’t the easiest of tracks to bat on. The large outfield doesn’t allow easy boundary scoring. There have been several low scoring encounters here. The ball moves around in the air for the fast bowlers and it is also among the most spin-friendly wickets in Australia.
In the last six games played at this venue the sides batting second have won all of them. The pitch is little difficult to bat on in the early overs when there is juice on the surface. The side winning the toss would have this in their mind and in most likelihood will choose to bowl first.
Australian side has been in sublime form this summer and has already defeated Sri Lanka 3-0. They would be carrying this confidence into the game. Pakistan under a new captain comes here with a string of poor performances including a 3-0 defeat at home last month against the Sri Lankans. Given the kind of form the Australian side is at the moment and their knowledge of the home conditions, the hosts would start as overwhelming favorites to win this game.
