The 17th game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will see Pakistan take on defending champions Australia at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. Australia comes into this game after suffering a big loss against the Indians and has two wins in three games. Pakistan saw its last game washed away after they had humbled tournament favorites England.
The recent record between the two sides has been completely in favor of the Australians and the Pakistanis have won next to nothing in the last few years. The Pakistanis also have had a poor run for long and were defeated 5-0 by the Australians in UAE prior to the World Cup. It will take a lot of effort and self-belief on the part of the Pakistani team to win the next game.

Defeats for Australia at the World Cups have been rare. In fact, they have lost just seven games since the 1996 edition of the event. So when Aaron Finch’s men went down against India in the last game it was a major event. They bowled poorly and had a strange approach to the chase for most parts of it. As they take on Pakistan the side would be hungry to win this one and set their momentum for rest of the tournament.
Aaron Finch is looking in good form but despite the runs, David Warner doesn’t look the player he once was. The middle order is doing well for the side with Usman Khawaja and Steven Smith in good form. They have good strength in the middle order with Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey and Marcus Stoinis having good hitting abilities as they have shown in the last two games.
Australia’s bowling was poor in the last game but that can be counted as an exception. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have done well with the new ball. But it is the form of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis that is concerning the side. Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell have done well in the tournament and shall look to check the flow of runs in the middle overs for the side.
Aaron Finch, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Shaun Marsh, Alex Carey, KW Richardson, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, Usman Khawaja, David Warner

Sarfaraz Ahmed would have counted it as a missed opportunity as their last game against Sri Lanka was washed away by rain. The side played really well against England to win the game and would be looking to perform the same way in the next game. Sarfaraz would know that Australians are coming into the game after a loss and hence likely to play hard cricket and his side has to be at its best to defeat them.
Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman look in good form for the side and would look to repeat what they did against England. The middle order finally seems to have found a form with Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed coming into this game with runs under their belt. Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali are good finishers and they would be looking to do well in the next game.
The bowling has lacked spark in this tournament and this is one area that the Pakistanis would be looking to improve in the next game. Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan are in good form but Mohammad Amir their main bowler hasn’t fired yet in the tournament. Wahab Riaz to has been found wanting on most occasions. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik will need to do well in the middle overs for the side to win the game.
Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Amir, Babar Azam, F Zaman, Hasan Ali, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Asif Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Wahab Riaz, Imam-ul-Haq

The weather would remain overcast during the game which is likely to affect batting and bowlers on both sides would enjoy bowling on this surface. The wicket should be a good one to bat on with not much of seam moment. A score of 300 plus is on the cards if the batsmen bat well on this surface.
Venue
The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton is a small ground and batsmen have always enjoyed playing here. The short boundaries on all sides of the wicket make it a good one to bat on. There is a little margin of error for the bowlers as mishits can go over the ropes at this ground.
There would be early juice on the surface at Taunton and this is likely to play in the minds of both the skippers when they go out for the toss. The side winning the toss can take advantage of the early conditions with the ball and hence we believe they are likely to bowl first on this surface.
The stakes are high for both the sides going into this game. After three games each Australia has won two of them and Pakistan has one win as their last game was washed away by rain. Australian bowling looked clueless in the last game and their batsmen never seemed to be nearing the asking rate. On paper both the sides look good but Australia has always done well in this event and Pakistan has been inconsistent and this will make Australians favorites to win the game.
