Australia Women lead the ODI series (1-0), which is a part of the 2017–20 ICC Women's Championship. The hosts thrashed the visitors in the first match of the series to continue their winning streak after sweeping the T20 series 3-0. With 15 wins in 16 games, Australia is at the top of the points table of the Championship, while Sri Lanka is at the bottom of the table with just 1 win in their 18 outings.
Australian Women look formidable as a team. Their batsmen, especially Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney have dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers right from the first T20I match played in Sydney, while for the visitors, a lot depends on Chamari Atapattu and the skipper Shashikala Siriwardene.

Captained by Meg Lanning, Australia Women team is at the top of the points table of ICC Women's Championship, with the most number of wins. Out of the ODI games of the championship, their only loss came at the hands of English Women (currently ranked second) in October 2017. The first ODI win against Sri Lanka in this series was their 13th consecutive ODI win, which shows their supremacy over all the other teams.
In the preceding T20 series, astounding batting from Alyssa Healy (unbeaten 148 off 61 balls) set a new world record for the highest score in women's T20Is. She surpassed Meg Lanning's previous best of 133. Healy’s century completed in just 46 balls, which was the second-fastest in women’s T20Is.
In the first ODI of the series, remarkable innings of Rachael Haynes (56), Meg Lanning (73) and Beth Mooney (66) led the team to a total of 281 runs in 50 overs batting first after winning the toss. Jess Jonassen, Tayla Vlaeminck and Ashleigh Gardner took 2 wickets each, while Jonassen helped to run-out Ranasinghe. Eventually, the hosts won the game by 157 runs, as they bowled out the visitors in 41.3 overs. Considering the last 10 games, Healy is the top-scorer with 488 runs, followed by Ellyse Perry’s 436. Perry also leads the bowling department with 20 wickets, followed by Jonassen who has 19 wickets in the last 10 games.

Sri Lanka cricket is really going through the tough times. They succeeded just once in their past 16 matches. Their only win in the ICC Women's Championship was against the Indian Women team in September 2018. They lost 3-0 ODI series against West Indies, South Africa, England, and Pakistan in the past two years. Despite heroic innings from Chamari Athapaththu (113 runs in 66 balls) in the first T20I, the team failed to chase Australia’s mammoth total of 217 runs due to the lack of support from other batsmen.
In the next two T20I matches, they failed to cross even 100 runs and faced heavy defeats. In the first ODI of the series, Udeshika Prabodhani bowled well for her 2 for 46. Siriwardene (1 for 44) and Ranaweera (1 for 44) did their bit, but Ranasinghe (2 for 67) and other bowlers were a little expensive which allowed Australia Women to post the total of 281 in 50 overs. It proved to be too much for Sri Lankans at the end. Siriwardene tried to manage the innings for some time with her 30 runs, but overall it was a dismal batting performance during the run-chase. Chamari Atapattu has scored 385 runs in the last 10 innings and Siriwardene's been giving the helping hand with 166 runs in the same number of innings. Inoka Ranaweera is leading the blowing chart for Sri Lanka Women with her 9 wickets in the last 10 games.
Shashikala Siriwardene, Harshitha Madavi, Chamari Atapattu, Nilakshi de Silva, Achini Kulasuriya, Ama Kanchana, Dilani Manodara, Inoka Ranaweera, Anushka Sanjeewani, Sugandika Kumari, Udeshika Prabodhani
On the match day, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34° c, while at night, the minimum temperature would be 17°. It will be a sunny morning and the chance of a thunderstorm with little or no rainfall in the afternoon and evening is predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology, Australia.
The venue for this match, is Allan Border Field, Brisbane. On this pitch, the average first innings score is 254 while the second innings’ average score is 177. Australia’s score of 281 in the first ODI was the highest total recorded on this surface. The highest total chased here is just 231 runs.
This is the kind of pitch where batting first would surely give an edge. It is recommended to bat first after winning the toss.
Australia Women are looking invincible at the moment. Head to head, the statistics are strongly in favour of the hosts. Barring the first T20 match, the Sri Lankan batsmen failed to put up a good show. Apart from the star performer Chamari Athapaththu and the skipper Shashikala Siriwardene, Sri Lanka’s batting unit lacks skills to face the Australian bowlers. On the other hand, Australia have a great batting line up that boasts of Healy, Mooney, Lanning and Haynes. In 50 overs format, Sri Lanka Women are no match for Australia Women.
We predict that Australia Women would defeat Sri Lanka Women and earn an unassailable lead of 2-0!
