It is the 5th match at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 and hosts Australia Women would be up against Sri Lanka Women. Both sides have lost their opening encounters and hence would be eager for a win in this game. Australia lost to India Women while Sri Lanka Women went down against New Zealand Women. Interestingly enough both teams lost their respective games from a position of strength.
The Sri Lankan squad is going through a poor run of form at the moment and hasn’t tasted a win in their last 11 games. This will definitely play on their mind as they take on Australia, a team against which they have never won a T20 game in the past. The Australian team will play with more determination after having lost their last game and they are a far superior side in terms of their resources.

Meg Lanning’s side has started the tournament with a loss as they went down against India Women in the first game. Lanning would have been very upset with the way her side approached the mediocre target. They have a good record against Sri Lanka Women and shall look to win this one and earn their first points for the tournament.
Openers Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy need to get the side off to a good start. Apart from Healy, everyone else in the top order failed in the last game. Lanning, Rachael Haynes, and Ashleigh Gardner will need to play well in the middle order. In Ellyse Perry and Jess Jonassen, they have two powerful hitters of the ball down the order.
Their bowlers did well in the last game and Perry and Molly Strano will look for early breakthroughs in the game. It is the Sri Lankan openers who have been in good form and new ball pair would target getting them out early. They will expect good support from the likes of Megan Schutt, Jonassen and Delissa Kimmince in the game.

Chamari Atapattu would be extremely upset with the loss against New Zealand Women in their opening game. They had started the game well and looked set for a big score. A batting collapse denied it to them and they ended up losing the game by 7 wickets. They are up against a tougher opponent and have to play extremely well to win the next game.
Chamari Atapattu and Hasini Perera played well in the last game and shall look to get their side off to another good start. Anushka Sanjeewani and Harshitha Madavi also got starts but failed to convert them and they must make amends. The side will need good contributions from Nilakshi de Silva, Ama Kanchana and Shashikala Siriwardene after they wasted a good platform against New Zealand.
Udeshika Prabodhani and Shashikala Siriwardene did well with the new ball in the last game bowling tight lines and they will need to do that once more. The side will also need a good show with the ball from Achini Kulasuriya, Sugandika Kumari and Atapattu who let off the pressure created by the opening bowling pair.

The weather would be overcast at Perth on February 24th and there are chances of showers during the game. This will make the conditions slightly difficult for the batsmen as the pitch is known to offer assistance to the fast bowlers. The side batting first would be happy to score in excess of 150 runs on this surface as it will be difficult to chase.
WACA Perth is a lively pitch where the ball tends to move around a bit and the bowlers are able to extract good pace off the surface. Batters also find plenty of scoring opportunities as the ball comes on to the bat nicely and the outfield is pretty fast. There isn’t much on this surface for the spinners though.
Most teams have preferred to bowl first at Perth and extract the early assistance that the surface offers. With the weather conditions being adverse batting won’t be easy here and in the event of a rain-curtailed game, the side chasing the score has an advantage. We expect the side winning the toss to bowl first in the game.
Australia Women would go out into the game like wounded tigresses. They lost the first game of the tournament due to complacency and aren’t likely to repeat the same mistakes. The Sri Lankan side also has to win this game after the loss in the last one. But apart from their powerful opening combination, there isn’t much in the side. Australia has a very powerful batting lineup and this will make them favorites going into the game.
