Having suffered a big defeat at the hands of Australia Women, Sri Lankan Women face an uphill challenge in the next game to be played at North Sydney Oval, Sydney.
They need to win this game to level the 3-match series. It was a bad show with the bat and the ball for the Sri Lankan side in the last game where they failed to match the challenge that was thrown at them by the hosts. In all departments of the game, they were defeated by the Australian girls. Sri Lanka Women have never defeated Australia Women in a T20 game and this is likely to play in their minds in the next game. Many of their players seemed completely out of form in the last game and will need to rise up to the occasion. It remains to be seen how the Sri Lankan players regroup before the next game.

Meg Lanning couldn’t have asked for a better start to the series from her girls. It was a dominating performance that saw them winning the game by a huge margin. Batting was near perfect and the bowlers also kept the pressure on the Sri Lankans right through the game. Lanning would want her girls to carry on with the same momentum in the next game. Beth Mooney played a stunning knock of 113 runs to deflate the Sri Lankan bowlers. She found good support from her opening partner Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner. With Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and Rachael Haynes in the side the batting line-up is formidable for the hosts. Jess Jonassen and Delissa Kimmince with their hitting abilities towards the end make the batting look very strong.
The bowlers did a good job in the last game where Perry and Megan Schutt troubled the Sri Lankan batting. The economy that that bowled with on a flat surface is surely worth some praise. Jess Jonassen and Tayla Vlaeminck also bowled well in the game. Delissa Kimmince and Georgia Wareham add variety to the squad and they will look to make it count in the next game.

Chamari Athapaththu’s side lost the last game due to undisciplined bowling. They were all over the place with the ball and allowed the Australian girls to free their arms. This is something the skipper would hope to prevent in the next game. The batting, especially at the top, also need to put a price on their wickets to win the next game. Chamari Athapaththu hit a stellar hundred in the last game but that went in vain as there was little support from others during the game. Yasoda Mendis and Anushka Sanjeewani will look to play wiser shots in the next game.
The side would also need to see a better show from Hansima Karunaratne, Nilakshi de Silva and Ama Kanchana as all of them got starts but failed to convert them into big scores in the last game. It was a forgettable performance with the ball for the side in the last game. Apart from Udeshika Prabodhani none of the other bowlers troubled the Australians. Oshadi Ranasinghe needs to do well with the new ball along with Sugandika Kumari. The side would also want to see better bowling effort from skipper Athapaththu and Shashikala Siriwardene.
Inoshi Priyadharshani Fernando, Hansima Karunaratne, Shashikala Siriwardene, Harshitha Madavi, Chamari Atapattu, Nilakshi de Silva, Yasoda Mendis, Ama Kanchana, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Anushka Sanjeewani, Udeshika Prabodhani
The weather would be slightly overcast at Sydney during the game but it shouldn’t affect the game. The pitch is a good one to bat on where the ball comes on to the bat nicely. The flat nature of the surface would allow the batters to hit the ball hard. The side batting first would eye a score of around 180 runs here.
North Sydney Oval, Sydney is a paradise for the batters and has one of the best batting wickets in Australian soil. The ball comes on to the bat nicely and batters can hit through the line easily. There is little for the fast bowlers on this surface and spinners too have to keep the line tight to do well here.
It is a good batting track and the first game played here saw nearly 400 runs being scored on the surface. In the next game as well the pitch is expected to be a good one to bat on. The captain winning the toss wouldn’t have any hesitation in her mind about batting first on this surface.
Australia Women have started the series on a positive note winning the first game by a huge margin. Their batters demolished the Sri Lankan attack and this would have demoralized the Sri Lankan girls’ confidence to a certain extent. It will be a big challenge for the Sri Lankan team to rise from the wounds of the first game. Their bowlers will need to regroup to win the next game. As things stand at the moment Australia Women would definitely start as favorites to win the next game.
