Bangladesh must be itching to take revenge against Afghanistan after the T20 series loss (0-3) and test-defeat which they faced earlier this month. Thanks to the superb all-round performance by Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh had defeated Afghanistan in their last encounter, which was an ODI in the ICC World Cup 2019. Before this series, Bangladesh has lost an ODI series 0-3 in Sri Lanka.
It was a tight win for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in the first match of the tournament. The rain-affected match was reduced to 18-overs per innings and Zimbabwe made 144 runs batting first. While chasing, top-four Bangladesh batsmen had returned to the pavilion before the end of the fifth over. With the captain Shakib Al Hasan and the wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim gone, their chances to defeat Zimbabwe looked bleak. But Mosaddek Hossain’s 30 and player of the match Afif Hossain’s maiden half-century spoiled Zimbabwe’s party as they chased to target with two-balls spared and won by 3 wickets.
Considering last 10 matches, Liton Das is the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh with 257 runs, followed my Mahmudullah with 248 runs, while Mustafizur Rahman (14 wickets) and Shakib Al Hasan (13 wickets) lead the bowling unit.

This is Afghanistan's first white-ball international series, after ICC World Cup 2019, in which they failed to win a single game. However, they came really close to win some of the games, especially the one against India. Earlier this month, they defeated Bangladesh in the test match at Chattogram, Bangladesh, which was their second test win of the year, the first was against Ireland in March 2019.
In this Tri-Series, Afghanistan is now at the top of the points table after defeating Zimbabwe in their first game. Batting first, Afghans scored just 123 runs till the end of the 16th over. That is when Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran launched the firecrackers, hitting seven sixes in seven balls, from overs 16.3 to 17.3. These 42 runs off 7 balls not only changed the flow of the game but also became the key factor in the win, as the winning margin was 28 runs. Najibullah Zadran was given Player of the match for his remarkable innings of 69 runs in 30 balls. Fareed Ahmad and Rashid Khan got two wickets each while Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib grabbed 1 wicket each.
Hazratullah Zazai (360 runs in last 5 innings) and Mohammad Nabi (245 runs in last 9 innings) lead the scoring department for Afghanistan while Rashid Khan (9 matches, 28 wickets) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (11 wickets in 8 matches) are leading the bowling force.

Out of 41 matches played here, the teams batting first have won 20 times, while 21 times the teams batting second have won. On this surface, the average first and second innings scores are 150 and 129 respectively. The highest score on this ground is 211/4 by Bangladesh against West Indies. The highest total chased here is 194/4 by Sri Lanka against Bangladesh and the lowest total defended is 129 by Sri Lanka against UAE.
The surface looks good for batting throughout and may favor spinners. It would be recommended to field first after winning the toss.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh have always produced exciting matches. Earlier, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan in the 50-over format in ICC World Cup, but in the shorter format, they faced consecutive defeats at the hands of Afghanistan. After March 2014, they could not win a match over Afghans in a T20Is. Bangladesh had a narrow win over Zimbabwe in their first game, while Afghanistan dominated and won the match against Zimbabwe with a bigger margin.
Both the teams enter this game with a win, but Afghanistan looks more confident and dominating compared to the hosts. The numbers too favor Afghanistan and hence we predict that Afghanistan will win this match against Bangladesh and continue to be on the top of the points table.
