Match Preview

The stage is set for another enthralling encounter when the host side Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in the final of the tri-series at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on Tuesday.

Bangladesh finally broke the string of losses, which had stretched to four successive ones, to pick up a four-wicket win over Afghanistan in the last league game of the tri-series on Saturday. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the star performer, his unbeaten 70 saw them through with an over to spare. It’s the biggest positive for Bangladesh as the skipper has found his flow just in time for the final. However, Bangladesh will no doubt be demanding more from their established batsmen - Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das. Batting duo needs to be at their best in the big game and score big. Pacer Mohammad Saifuddin has been remarkable form and he will be looking to stop Mohammed Nabi, the in-from Afghanistan player. Shakib Al Hasan led side will be hoping for another strong performance as they have had some tight tussle versus Afghanistan in the past.

After the two early consecutive wins in the series, Afghanistan lost the momentum as they lost the third and fourth game of the tri-series against the Zimbabwe and Bangladesh respectively. The visitor's side will be buoyed by the recent records against Bangladesh as they got 80 plus percent of T-20 win record versus Bangladesh. The biggest concern for the Afghan team is the availability of skipper Rashid Khan for the finals as he suffered a hamstring injury in last game. He is currently ICC top-ranked T-20 bowler and his absence can have a major influence on how things pan out in Mirpur. In the last couple of games, the batting unit failed to score runs except for key batsmen – Mohammed Nabi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz who need to carry on their good form. Afghans side will be hoping to put the solid performance to win the T-20 series.

Teams Preview

Bangladesh

The hosts have played four matches so far in the series, and they lost only one. Two wins came against Zimbabwe, while against Afghanistan - the host side won one and lost one game at league stage.
In their first outing against Afghanistan in the league stage, with effective bowling from Shakib Al Hasan (2 for 18) and Mohammad Saifuddin (4 for 33), the hosts had contained most of Afghanistan’s batsmen. However, they failed to repress Mohammad Nabi (84 off 54) and received the target of 165 runs. After the top-order debacle, Mahmudullah led the run-chase with his 39 balls 44, but lack of support from the fellow batsmen led to yet another loss at the hands of Afghanistan by 25 runs.
While in the second and last outing against Afghanistan, the host side put a clinical performance to break the losing streak. Shakib Al Hasan Unbeaten 70 helped the host to chase down the target of 139 with one over remaining. Bowling unit did a good job collectively and picked the picked at regular interval.
Middle-order batsmen Mahmudullah has been the leading scorer for the side with 126 runs from four games. He would be keen to carry on his good form. On the bowling front, Mohammad Saifuddin is leading wicket-taker in the series with seven-wicket while skipper Shakib Al Hasan is the second-best bowler for the host with four wickets.

Afghanistan

Despite the loss in last game versus hosts Bangladesh, Afghanistan team will be very confident going into the final as they got tremendous T-20 success against the opponent. In the league stage, Afghanistan won two out of their four games.

In the first game against Bangladesh in the group stage, Asghar Afghan’s 40 runs and Nabi’s sparkling innings of 54 balls 84 powered the team to 164 runs while batting first. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was remarkable for is 4 for 15 while two-wickets each from Fareed Ahmad, Rashid Khan, and Nabi helped the team to earn their second win of the tournament and record 12th consecutive T20I win.

In their second game versus the hosts, Bangladesh broke the Afghans' winning streak. Opening pair of Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided the solid 75 runs start for the first wicket. However, the other batsmen in the line failed very quickly one after other and end up scoring just 138 in 20 overs. It was well below the par score. While defending the score bowlers fought hard but some heroic batting from opponent skipper took the game away from the visitors.
In the batting, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mohammed Nabi have been the most successful Afghan batsmen in the ongoing series. Their good form is very important to score the big runs in the finals. In the bowling, the spinning duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid khan has been excellent form, picked 7 and 6 wickets respectively in last four games.

Winning Prediction

Usually, Bangladesh has been a very good ODI side however they haven’t been up to the mark in T-20 in the last couple of year. In the ongoing series as well, their experienced player got very little success. On the other hand, Afghanistan looks very strong and balanced team in T-20 compared to Bangladesh. Also, all the statistics are in favor of the Afghans.
