India will take on Bangladesh in the 40th match of 2019 World Cup at the Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday. Regarded as one of the favorites to lift the trophy, India has performed extremely well in the ICC World Cup 2019. In the previous game, men in blue lost the lone game in the tournament against Host England by a margin of 31 runs. However, the Indian side would be very happy with their performances as they fought hard chasing the big score on 337. Rohit Sharma’s superb world cup form continues, he smashed his third century of the tournament while Virat Kohli scored fourth fifty in a row against England. Mohammed Shami was excellent with the ball, he took a five-wicket haul. The ICC ODI top two ranked batsman – Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma provides great stability in the Indian batting and have the great potential to build a big partnership. The batting duo is the biggest threat for any opponent in the tournament. India just needs another win in their next two-game including this one to seal the position in the top four. So, Men in blue will be hoping for clinical performance to get their sixth win in the tournament.
On the other hand, eager to keep the semi-final hopes alive, a desperate Bangladesh will have their work cut out when they take on a formidable India in a do-or-die World Cup. The Mashrafe Mortaza led-team back in the winning ways after defeating Afghanistan by 62 runs in the previous game. Once again the star performer was the veteran Shakib Al Hasan. He is in the best form of his carrier in the tournament. He dished out another all-round show – 61 from 69 balls, followed by five-wicket haul. Former skipper, Mushfiqur Rahim too contributed an 83-run knock to put Bangladesh on the right path in the first inning. In the event, men in green are playing top-class cricket in all aspects of the game and they would be looking to put strong battle against the tough Indian side. Their batsmen comprising Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Liton Das showed great temperament and skills versus a fire-power team like New Zealand, South Africa, and West Indies. Furthermore, the bowling unit was also collectively able to defend a score on two occasions. Although Bangladesh doesn't have a good ODI record against India, have possessed the required skills needed to beat the opponent.

Mashrafe's men put a very dominant performance against Afghanistan in the previous game to get their third win in the tournament. Unlike opponent, Bangladesh is relying heavily on their top order batsmen – Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim. They need to score a massive run against formidable Indian batting line-up. Their success in the tournament so far has revolved around Shakib Al Hasan's contributions with the bat and bowl. He has been in sensational form in this year’s World Cup and proved why he is currently ranked number one ICC ODI All-rounder. So far, he scored 476 runs from 6 games at an average of 95.20 with two centuries and also picked 10 wickets. Once again the responsibility will be on him to deliver all-round performance.
Former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim has been in great form in last year and also played few crucial knocks in the tournament. He possesses great temperament and skills which would be very pivotal against a strong opponent like India. He scored 604 runs in last 20 innings at an average of 35 and would be keen to get a big one in the vital match.
The bowling department will be lead by skipper Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin. A lot would depend on this bowling duo to deliver initial breakthroughs with the new-ball. Another pacer, Mustafizur Rahman has been also impressive in the tournament. He picked 10 wickets from six games. Spinning duo Shakib and Mehidy Hasan offer useful spin variety in the middle overs.

In the Previous game, the men in blue were not clinical and they will be hoping to tick all boxes to get their sixth win of the tournament. In batting, the onus will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to make the most of the runs. Rohit Sharma has been in tremendous form in the tournament, he scored 440 runs in six innings, which include three century and one fifty. He is the leading scorer for India in the ongoing tournament and would look to carry on his form.
Arguably, one of the finest batsmen in ODI Virat Kohli has been very consistent in the tournament. He scored 382 runs in six innings so far in the tournament. Furthermore, he got great record opposite Bangladesh, scored 654 ODI runs in 11 innings at an average of 81. He would be hungry for his first century of the ongoing tournament.
In last game, Hardik Pandya played a quick-fire knock of 45 runs off 32 balls, while MS Dhoni scored 42 of 31 balls. They are a very strong hitter of the ball and can decimate Bangladesh bowling attack.
India's bowling attack comprising Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav has destroyed some of the best batting lineups of the tournament. Mohammed Shami, who has played just three games so far in the tournament is the leading wicket-taker for India. He picked 13 wickets which include one five wickets haul. India’s key pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been equally good, he picked 10 wickets from 6 games. Bangladesh batsmen will be strongly tested against this bowling duo.

The weather forecast for the day is partly sunny with a gentle breeze blowing across. There isn’t any chance of precipitation. Though, typically Edgbaston is a not a high scoring venue, in the previous game witnessed both the side scored 300+. In the last 10 games, 319 is the highest batting score at this venue, while 244 is the average. Short boundaries at one side will make things difficult for the spinners. Bowlers need to use variety and sharp bouncers very precisely to put a lid on the runs.
The records are in favor of batting first, out of last 29 completed ODI, 15 games won by the team batting first. We expect the team winning toss will definitely wish to bat first at this venue.
A look at the current form of Indian side suggests that it will be very hard to beat them in this tournament. They got many star performers in their side and they are consistently performing in the mega event. Furthermore, they hold very strong ODI win record against Bangladesh. On the other hand, Bangladesh team has vulnerabilities in the middle order batting and bowling. They played excellent cricket of late against a quality opponent, but they lack firepower in their bowling unit to put India’s batting unit under pressure. Though it looks like a pretty fair encounter, India is a clear favorite to win this match.
We predict India will win this match based on the recent performances.
