Match Preview

Host nation Bangladesh will take on Zimbabwe in the first T-20 game of tri-series that involves Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Bangladesh will begin their build-up to the T20 World Cup with this tri-series. However, the Bangladesh team will need to bounce back from the disappointment of losing to Afghanistan in their recent Test match. Bangladesh side would be led by skipper Shakib Al Hasan. He is a Bangladesh key player in all format and also currently the second-ranked all-rounder in twenty-20. For the tri-series, the Tigers have made huge changes to the squad that played in their last T20 series against the West Indies in December with Tamim Iqbal on leave whilst Mehidy Hasan, Rubel Hossain are all dropped.  Young paceman Yasin Arafat is a surprise inclusion and he is joined in the squad by fellow youngsters Mahedi Hasan and Afif Hossain whilst Mohammad Saifuddin is fit enough to return following an injury. Bangladesh side would be eying for a strong comeback following their last defeat.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe team is likely to use this tri-series to build for the future after missing out on qualification for next year’s T20 World Cup at the same time as their ICC suspension is still lingering over them. Hamilton Masakdza will skipper the side in his last series in international cricket. Zimbabwe team is coming to the series on the back of 1-1 (draw) T-20 series against Ireland. It would be a great advantage for the Zimbabwe side as they played some decent T-20 games recently. Besides, with the likes of Craig Ervine, Sean Williams and Brendan Taylor, Zimbabwe side also got great experienced players in the side. A lot would depend on these veterans to score the most of the runs. Zimbabwe team needs to strike all chords to battle against the potentially stronger Bangladesh side.

Bangladesh

Skipper Shakib AL Hasan side would be keen to provide clinical performance in all aspects of the game to win the first game of the T-20 tri-series.

Bangladesh side got many match-winner in the team and on a day anyone player can win the match on his own. Veteran Shakib Al Hasan has been in great form, he scored 1471 runs from last 72 games at an average of 23.34 and also picked 88 wickets. He is one of the best all-rounders in cricket and he would be keen to contribute with both bat and the ball. Besides, Opening batsman, Liton Das has also got great success in recent times, he scored 109 runs from last 3 T-20 games at an average of 36.33. He needs to provide solid platform upfront. Former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is also another expert player in the side. He possesses great temperament and skills which would be very pivotal in a pressure situation.

The bowling department will be lead by Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin. A lot would depend on this bowling duo to deliver initial breakthroughs with the new ball. Mustafizur Rahman has got great variety in his bowling and that is very vital in T-20 games. He also picked 5 wickets from last three T-20 games. Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe teams have struggled in recent times in international cricket as they managed only one win out of their last 10 matches played this year. Skipper Masakadza side need to come up with much better performance when they take on Bangladesh.

In batting a lot would depend on veteran Craig Ervine and Brendon Tayor. Sean Williams, who is currently fifth-ranked all-rounder in T-20 ranking has been in great form. He has contributed both with the bat and the ball. He scored 165 runs from 6 games at an average of 33.00 and also bagged 6 wickets. He can win the match for the side with his great all-round skills.

Pitch And Weather Conditions

The weather forecast at Dhaka on Friday looks cloudy and there is also a forecast of the rain. Average first inning score at this venue is 50 while batting second is 129. Furthermore, the last two T-20 played at this venue won by team batting first.

Toss Prediction

Hence team winning toss, would look to bat first and put massive runs on the board. We expect the team winning toss will definitely wish to bat first at this venue.

Winning Prediction

Bangladesh team got many star performers in their side and they are consistently performing at the international level. On the other hand, Zimbabwe team has vulnerabilities in the middle-order batting and also they lack depth and experience in bowling. Furthermore, a look at the recent form of players and success of both team in international level, Bangladesh is way ahead against Zimbabwe and are the outright favourite to win this game. We predict Bangladesh will win this match.
