Before this Test, Bangladesh suffered a loss against Pakistan earlier this month, when they visited Pakistan. It was a big defeat by an innings, as they failed with both bat and ball. Mahmudullah who failed with the bat in recent matches has been dropped along with Rubel Hossain, Soumya Sarkar and Al-Amin Hossain are not included in the squad. Mehidy Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mustafizur are in.
Zimbabwe’s return to Test cricket was satisfactory against Sri Lanka, as they managed to draw the second Test, after losing the first. However, they will be at backfoot as their skipper Sean Williams stayed at home to spend time with his newborn child. Craig Ervine will lead the side in his absence.

As per chief selector Minhajul Abedin, Bangladesh’s key batsman Mahmudullah is not included as he needed a break from red-ball cricket, after having scored just one half-century in his last 10 innings. Mushfiqur is back in the squad after he had opted out from the Pakistan tour citing security reasons.
Bangladesh had a bad outing at Rawalpindi against Pakistan before this Test. In the first innings, they were bowled out in just 233 runs. Mohammad Mithun was the only batsman to cross fifty, while in their second innings, Mominul Haque’s 41 was the highest individual score as they bowled out for 168, to lose the match by an innings and 44 runs. Their bowlers didn’t seem to have an answer against Pakistan’s batsmen, as four of their players crossed 50, and two of them smashed centuries.
Tamim Iqbal is the leading run-scorer with 357 in 12 innings followed by Liton Das (329 runs in 6 innings). Taijul Islam (11 wickets in previous 6 innings) and Mehidy Hasan (6 wickets in 4 innings) are the key bowlers for the hosts.
Key Players: Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan, Tamim Iqbal
Nayeem Hasan, Mohammad Mithun, Ebadat Hossain, Mominul Haque, Liton Das, Tamim Iqbal, Taijul Islam, Abu Jayed, Mushfiqur Rahim, Saif Hassan, Nazmul Hossain
Zimbabwe’s last Test series win was in 2011 when they defeated Bangladesh in 1-Test series by 1-0 in Zimbabwe. During their previous visit to Bangladesh, they missed the chance to win the series after taking 1-0 lead winning the first Test, as Bangladesh overwhelmed them in the second Test. Zimbabwe has roped in Chris Mpofu as Tendai Chatara is still not recovered. Mpofu’s performance in Logan Cup (11 for 54) could have been the reason for his inclusion.
In the last month, the Test series against Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe played well, especially their batsmen to 400 plus runs and bowling out Sri Lankans for 293 in the first innings. However, Sri Lanka batted well in the fourth innings to deny Zimbabwe, who returned to the Test Cricket, a chance to secure the win and level the series.
Sikandar Raza is the key player as he is the leading run-scorer with 593 runs in the last 8 Tests and took 25 wickets in as many matches. Brendan Taylor (535 runs in the last 7 matches) is the second-highest run-scorer for the visitors.
Key Player: Sikandar Raza, Brendan Taylor, Craig Ervine
Victor Nyauchi, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Ainsley Ndlovu, Regis Chakabva, Prince Masvaure, T Maruma, Kevin Kasuza, Donald Tiripano, Charlton Tshuma, Brendan Taylor

The weather is expected to be partly cloudy on the match day. The temperature is expected to reach 34°c during the daytime while the nighttime temperature is expected to be at 20 °c. It will be dry with no precipitation.
The venue for the match is Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. It has probably the best drainage facility in the subcontinent. The ground was originally built for football and athletics and was hence rectangular in shape.
The surface looks very good for the batsmen for initial 2-3 days and after that, it is expected to give an advantage to the slow bowlers and the spinners. The highest score here is 730 runs, by Sri Lanka against Bangladesh. It will be a good toss to win and bat first.
In 16 Tests played between the two teams, Bangladesh has won 7 matches while Zimbabwe won 6, and 3 Tests ended in a draw. In recent performances, Bangladesh’s head to head records are much better compared to the visitors, as they won 4 out of the last five Tests.
Zimbabwe has surely shown a glimpse of better cricket but defeating Bangladesh in Bangladesh would not be an easy task for them, especially in the absence of Sean Williams.
