T&Cs apply, 18+
Two sides which ended at the top of the table after the league stages will face off against each other for a place in the final. The route taken to the Qualifier 1 by both teams has been very different. The Bellary Tuskers have been the form team of the tournament and have dominated all oppositions. Their losses have only been due to some freakish performance by the opposition. They have been brilliant in all three departments and their star performer Krishnappa Gowtham has led the way for them. The Belagavi Panthers, on the other hand, started poorly losing their first two games before Manish Pandey joined their ranks. But once he took over the reins of the team, they were a transformed unit and demolished opposition teams with their batting might. However, with Pandey missing the rest of the competition, the onus will be on the other players to lift their performances on the big day.

The Bellary Tusker juggernaut has stream rolled opposition in the league stages and will be looking forward to putting out an impressive show in Qualifiers 1. The team which is functioning like a well-oiled machine has been consistent in all the three facets of the game. The batsmen led by the exciting Devdutt Padikkal have made big runs while the bowling attack has been led beautifully by the highest wicket-taker in this edition Krishnappa Gowtham. They will be aiming to produce a complete performance and move on to the finals.
Key Players:
Krishnappa Gowtham: The star all-rounder who plies his trade for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League has been the single most outstanding player in the league. He has the highest wicket tally in the league with 19 wickets. Also, his promotion to No.3 in the batting order has worked out brilliantly with him smashing an unbeaten century and a couple of quick-fire cameos. The Tuskers will be expecting a special performance from the champion all-rounder in the knockouts to ensure them the trophy.
Devdutt Padikkal: The young exciting left-hand batsmen was retained by the Tuskers from last season and has repaid the faith shown in him by the owners. The youngster who was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore setup during the IPL has had an excellent tournament and is currently 3rd in the list of highest run makers in this edition of the KPL. His team will hope he has two more big innings in him which will put them in a great position to win the championship.
The Belagavi Panthers have had a roller coaster of a season and now find themselves two victories away from the title. They started poorly before the arrival of Manish Pandey changed their fortunes. They then went on to win three games to end up second in the points table. Now they get ready to face the table-toppers in Qualifier 1 without the presence of Manish Pandey who has been called up for India A duties. It will be a herculean challenge for the young Panthers side to overcome the strong Tuskers unit and secure their place in the finals.
Key Players:
Ravikumar Samarth: The young exciting right-hander has had a poor tournament this year with not being able to get off to starts. He did seem to somewhat recover his touch in the Panther’s last league game scoring a half-century and will be looking forward to carrying on the good form. His form is especially crucial, with the absence of Manish Pandey and will be expected to play throughout the innings at a solid strike rate allowing others to score quickly around him.
Shubang Hegde: The young allrounder who’s made it to the U23 Indian squad will be looking to prove the selectors right. The youngster was retained by the Belagavi Panthers and has had an average showing in this year’s tournament. However, it seemed like he was coming into his own in the last match bowling his typical miserly spell and picking up important wickets. The team will expect him to bowl the important overs and quick cameos with the bat when the situation demands.

The tracks at Mysore have been ideal for T20 games with the ball coming on to the bat well and the batsmen able to trust the bounce. This has led to teams raking up huge scores and chasing down those totals. The bowlers have had to rely on their variation for picking up wickets. There should be no changes in the behavior of the pitch and high scoring games are expected in the qualifiers. The Mysore leg of the tournament has been lucky to escape rains even though they have been predicted for most days and the organizers will be hoping for more of the same.
VENUE
The Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground has been an excellent host so far with highly entertaining contests. The spectators have been served an array of brilliant batsmanship. The batsmen friendly pitches and the short boundaries mean this pattern is going to continue for the rest of the tournament. The groundsmen will be hoping there is no weather interruption and we get complete games.
With small grounds and batting friendly decks being the norm, the captain winning the toss will have no hesitation in choosing to field first. Five of the six games played in Mysore so far have been won by the team batting second and the captains are sure to be aware of that fact. The bowling team will have to pick up wickets in the power play to have any hope of restricting the batsmen to a decent score.
The fight between the top two teams after the group stages for a place in the final promises to be an enthralling contest. Both teams have in them some of the most talented players in Karnataka right now and they will be looking forward to displaying their skills on the big occasion. The Bellary Tuskers should be confident going into the qualifiers with all the three departments firing in all cylinders while the Belagavi Panthers will be hoping the loss of Manish Pandey does not prove too costly for them. Based on the consistency in this year’s edition of the KPL and the unavailability of Manish Pandey for the Panthers make the Bellary Tuskers the favorites for this game.
