Trinbago Knight Riders had won only 4 league matches last year, but they are already off to the flying start with two wins in the first two games in this edition of CPL. Barbados Tridents also begin their campaign with a win, but their rain-affected second match, unfortunately, went against them. The target of 47 in five overs was all Zouks needed. It once again raised all sorts of questions for the use of the DLS method. Kieron Pollard’s side will be eager to continue their winning streak while playing against Barbados Tridents, especially after losing all three matches they played in the last edition of the Caribbean Premier League.

Barbados Tridents started the tournament on a winning note by defeating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, but it was never an easy game for them. While Kyle Mayers (37 runs in 20 balls) and Jason Holder (38 runs of 22 balls) had anchored the innings, at the end they could manage just 153 runs on the board. The Patriots were in charge till the halfway through their innings. However, Santner dislodged the dangerous Mitchell Dunk in the 13th over, and the Tridents caught a break when the ball was changed in the 15th over, due to the dew. Eventually, the Tridents sealed the game by 6 runs.
Thursday's CPL game between the Barbados Tridents and the St Lucia Zouks turned into yet another disappointment due to rain and the use of the DLS method. On a two-paced pitch, Barbados Tridents did well to score 131 runs in 18.1 overs batting first. Johnson Charles had given a good start with 19-balls 35 that included two sixes, while Holder accumulated quick 27 runs (off 12 balls). The rain and the DLS later diluted all their efforts as Zouks had to score 47 runs in five overs. Even though Rashid Khan took 2 wickets in his two overs and Reifer grabbed one wicket, it was never going to make them win the game.
Hayden Walsh (18 wickets in last 9 matches) is their key bowlers, while Johnson Charles (332 runs in just 10 innings) is the leading run-scorer for BT.

Trinbago Knight Riders won the first game of the Caribbean Premier League 2020 against Guyana Amazon Warriors. Sunil Narine’s heroic knock of 28-balls 50 greatly helped the side to achieve the target of 145, which they did with two balls to spare. Narine also took a couple of wickets for 19 runs, while Ali Khan was effective too for his 3 overs 21 for 1.
In the second match, Naraine again took the charge with the bat as well as the ball. Bowling first, TKR restricted Jamaica Tallawahs at 135, thanks to Ali Khan’s 2-for-25 and Jayden Seales’ 2-for-21. Naraine took 1 wicket for 19 runs and later smashed 7 fours and 2 sixes to post yet another half-century, for which he was awarded the man of the match for the second consecutive game. Colin Munro played well for his 49 runs innings which included 5 fours and a couple of sixes. In the end, they achieved the target comfortably in 18.1 overs, winning the game by 7 wickets. Simmons is yet to make a mark, as he scored just 17 in the first match and got out for a duck in the second game.

In the previous CPL season, the champions Barbados Tridents had won all the games against TKR. But the overall performance of TKR across all the CPL seasons is outstanding, with three CPL trophies. It could be a thrilling match between two strong sides having equally good batting unit. The outcome of the match could well be decided by the bowlers or the all-rounders. TKR got the early momentum with two consecutive wins, and that is what matters in the T20 format. With high confidence, TKR enter the game as the favourites.
We predict that Trinbago Knight Riders will defeat Barbados Tridents.
