Chennai Super Kings seek redemption against in-form Delhi Capitals

Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals will lock horns in the second game of the 2021 Indian Premier League at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
For the first time in IPL history, Chennai Super Kings failed to make it to the playoffs of the competition. Captain MS Dhoni will be hoping that the side can put in a disciplined performance with bat and ball in this opening fixture.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have suffered a setback ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League. Shreyas Iyer is set to miss the competition due to injury, wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been named captain of the franchise for the coming season.

Pacer Josh Hazlewood has decided to skip this year’s IPL due to personal reasons. The franchise has yet to name a replacement for Hazlewood for the coming season.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the experienced trio of Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu to make decent scores in this opening contest.
Last year, Faf du Plessis was the most consistent player with the bat and finished the competition with 449 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 140.75. Former South African captain will be hoping to continue his excellent form with the bat in this year’s competition.

Ruturaj Gaekwad was a valuable find for the batting department in the previous edition of the league. In six appearances for Chennai, he accumulated 204 runs at an average of 51.00 with three half-centuries.
The big positive news for Chennai is all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been declared fit and will certainly be included in the final XI for the opening encounter.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran to make crucial breakthroughs in the first five overs. Ravindra Jadeja and Karn Sharma will be premier spin options for this game

Last year, opener Shikhar Dhawan showed excellent form and consistency for Delhi at the top of the innings. Left-hander accumulated 618 runs in 17 innings at an average of 44.14 with two centuries and four half-centuries to his name.
Former Australian captain Steven Smith will be slotted into the playing XI for this opening encounter. Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetymer and Rishabh Pant will make up the middle-order for Delhi Capitals.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma to make early inroads with the new-ball. Ravichandran Ashwin and Pravin Dubey will be spinners for this contest.
