The Cape Town Blitz side led by young impressive wicket-keeper batsman Q de Kock will be hoping for clinical performance in all aspects of the game and get the fourth win under their belt. On the batting front, the side got many in form batsmen likes JN Malan, LS Livingstone, Dean Elgar and Q de Kock. All these batsmen got some runs under their belt and able to score consistently in earlier games this season.
JN Malan and LS Livingstone have been the standout batsman for Blitz thus far this season. JN Malan with 165 runs from the last 5 games is currently the second top scorer in the MSL2019. LS Livingstone also supported equally well in batting, he scored 155 runs at an average of 31 in last 5 games. Batting duo would be keen to carry on the good form and win more matches for the side.
In the bowling department, veteran Dale Steyn looks threatening this season. He has troubled the batsmen on many occasions. With 8 wickets from five-game, he is currently the leading wicket-taker for Blitz and second-best in the tournament. He got sheer pace and also a great variety in his bowling. SSB Magala and A Nortje also supported him well from other ends. Both bagged six wickets from the last 5 games.
Key Player - Q de Kock, L S Livingstone and Dale Steyn
After trouncing the defending champions in their previous match, Paarl Rocks will look to continue their winning momentum when they lock horns with the second-placed Cape Town Blitz. In batting, the inclusion of James Vince is side proved very effective. He smashed 129 runs from the last two games, which also include an impressive knock of 86 runs.
However, the form of skipper Faf du Plessis is a major concern with the South African Test captain due to a big score. He failed to convert the starts into a big one. He is the vital cog in the Rocks batting line-up and his good form is very important for the Parl Rocks to go long way in the tournament. When on the song, he has the ability to take any bowling attack apart with his wide array of strokes on either side of the wicket.
The all-rounder D Pretorius is in decent form. He scored 80 runs and also picked 2 wickets from three games played in the ongoing season. His promotion in the batting proved effective as he scored 37 runs in the last game.
Bowling unit comprising of Isuru Udana, Bjorn Fortuin, Hardus Viljoen and Tabraiz Shamsi did a remarkable job in the last game to restrict the batting heavy opponent on just score of 129 runs. However, the bowling unit needs to be more disciplined and smart when they take on batting heavy Cape Town Blitz side. Tabraiz Shamsi with 5 wickets, was the standout player with the bowl for Rocks in the last three-game.
Key Players - Faf du Plessis, James Vince, Dwaine Pretorius
The weather is expected to be partly cloudy and there will be a gentle breeze blowing around throughout this game on Sunday.
In the only game that was played this season, the Newlands track seemed to be good for batting. However, the bowlers needn’t get disappointed. There is a good amount of assistance on offer for them if they are disciplined and hit the right areas.
183 was the first inning score in the lone game earlier played this venue in MSL 2019, where team batted first won the game.
We predict the team winning toss will look to bat first at this venue.
