It is a big match coming up at Newlands, Cape Town where hosts Cape Town Blitz would be up against Tshwane Spartans.
The hosts have hit a rough patch after a good start to the season and have lost their last three games. They will need to win this one to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs.
The Tshwane Spartans, on the other hand, are in great form and sit comfortably at the top of the points table. They haven’t lost a game yet this season. The Cape Town Blitz is struggling with the form of their bowlers at the moment. Their last loss would have hurt their confidence a bit having failed to defend a big score. As for the Spartans, they are demolishing their opponents at will. It will take an extraordinary effort from the Blitz to defeat the Spartans and they would like to make use of the home advantage in what is expected to be a great game.

Quinton de Kock’s side failed to defend a big score in the last game against Durban Heat suffering their third consecutive loss in the season. Their bowling attack is looking toothless at the moment and the skipper would want them to recover from this defeat and play well against a tough opponent in the next game. At the top Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock are in good form with the bat and so is David Bedingham batting at No. 3.
The trio will need to do well in the next game for the side to win. Down the order, the likes of Asif Ali, Liam Livingstone and Vernon Philander will have to make good use of their hitting abilities against a good bowling line-up that the Spartans have. The bowling attack is struggling at the moment and apart from Dale Steyn none of the other bowlers looked threatening in the last game.
Steyn would expect good support from the likes of Wahab Riaz and Philander with the new ball. Mohammad Nawaz and Sisanda Magala will have to check the flow of runs during the middle overs.
Heinrich Klaasen can’t complain about anything with the kind of show his side has put up so far in the season. Their 8 wicket win over Paarl Rocks in the last game aptly summarizes the way they have dominated over their opponents this season. The skipper would want his side to carry forward the same momentum into the next game. AB de Villiers played one of his special knocks in the last game and looks in good form.
Opening the innings Dean Elgar and Theunis de Bruyn has also done well so far in the season and they will look to provide a positive start to the side. In Petrus van Biljon, Roelof van der Merwe and Wiaan Mulder they have big hitters down the order who can deliver the goods if required. Their bowlers look in great shape going into the next game. Tom Curran, Morne Morkel and Lungi Ngidi have bowled superbly so far in the season. Roelof van der Merwe goes into the next game after bowling a match-winning spell. Having Lutho Sipamla in the attack adds the perfect balance to the side going into the game.
There would be dark clouds over Cape Town on December 01 which will make conditions challenging for batting as the ball is likely to swing and seam. The pitch has played well so far and batsmen have scored runs freely. Given the conditions any score of 160 or more would be a good one on this surface.
Newlands, Cape Town has traditionally been a good surface to bowl with pace and bounce on the surface. The ball comes onto the bat nicely and this also makes it good for the batsmen as they can play their strokes freely. Spinners haven’t done well on this surface where there is little margin for error.
In the three games played so far at the venue the pitch has been a good one to bat on. Lots of runs have been scored and the pitch has remained the same in both the innings. The weather is however expected to be adverse and we expect the side winning the toss to field first and take advantage of the pitch offering assistance to the fast bowlers.
The Cape Town Blitz is facing a very tough opponent in a game that they need to win this one to secure a place in the playoffs. Their bowlers aren’t in the best of form at the moment as was seen in the last game.
Tshwane Spartans, on the other hand, are going all guns blazing and the side is playing like a well-oiled unit with batsmen and bowlers in good form. It will be a close contest given the team composition in either camp but we expect the Tshwane Spartans to start as favorites after the kind of form they have shown so far.
