T&Cs apply, 18+
Dindigul looks formidable especially looking at their group stage performance, where they had won first six games, defeating all major teams, including the defending champions Madura Panthers in TNPL 2019’s match 5 at Tirunelveli. The only game they lost in the group stage was against Lyca Kovai Kings, that was by 35 runs, but they topped the points table and earned them a couple of chance to make it to the final.
The loss against Chepauk Super Gillies in Qualifier 1 must have jolted them but they still have one more chance here. Madurai Panthers started the season with a victory and faced two back to back defeats from Dindigul Dragons and Kanchi Veerans, followed by five straight wins including the victory over Kanchi Veerans in the Eliminator. For Dindigul and Madurai fans, it will be a treat to see the sparkling battle.

Winning first six games, Dindigul Dragons had early on secured their place not only for the playoffs but for the Qualifiers matches. Here, they have a second chance to make it to the TNPL 2019 final despite losing to Chepauk Super Gillies in the first Qualifier by five runs. N Jagadeesan’s 24 balls 37 and R Ashwin’s 22 runs innings at number three went in vain as Gillies stopped Dragons batsmen within 5 runs. M Mohammed’s two sixes off the last two balls came a little late in the run-chase of 170. Hari Nishanth was impressive with the bat as well as ball, as he scored 29 and took 2 for 16, while B Praanesh 2 wickets came at the cost of 33 runs in just 3 overs.
Their highest score in this tournament is 182/5 against Ruby Trichy Warriors. DD’s lowest is 99 in their last group-stage match against Kanchi Veerans which they lost by 35 tuns. The defeat margin could have been higher without S Sujay’s 34 runs innings. Their overall batting performances have been good, but their bowlers need to pull up the socks and as it would be difficult to win big matches without their significant contribution.
Key players for Dragons are Jagadeesan (398 runs in 8 matches, 3 half-centuries and 1 century, Average 79.60), Hari Nishanth (267 runs, 3 half-centuries in 8 innings) and all-rounder R Ashwin (136 runs and 8 wickets in 7 innings) while Silambarasan leads the bowling department with 11 wickets in 8 matches followed by Jagannathan Kaushik with 8 wickets.

The defending champions made to the Qualifier match after beating VB Kanchi Veerans by 5 wickets in the Eliminator match. Due to lesser net run rate SMP (0.703) had stayed below Chepauk Super Gillies (1.1391) in the points table despite sharing the same points (10 points each). It had forced them to play the Eliminator, but they came out victorious to play Dindigul now. SMP won 1 of first 3 games but thereafter they won 5 games in a row.
Arun Karthik has been in a phenomenal form and his contributing has been huge to get SMP into the virtual semi-final game. In the eliminator match against Kanchi Veerans, their bowlers conceded too many runs after removing Veerans’ top order in first five overs. While chasing 152, Arun Karthik smashed 64 off just 39 balls while Koushik’s 1 six and 1 four in 20th over helped the team to reach the second Qualifier. In this match against the Dindigul Dragons, Madurai would rely heavily on him once again. It would be difficult for others to fit into his shoes if he gets out early.
With two half-centuries and a century, Arun Karthik has scored maximum runs (345 runs in 8 matches) for SMP in the tournament, at an average of 49.29 and strike rate of 149.35. Jagatheesan Koushik, their second-highest run-scorer is almost 200 runs behind him. Kiran Akash (15 wickets in 8 games) is Madurai’s top wicket-taking bowler followed by Rahil Shah (12 wickets in 7 innings).

Dindigul Dragons vs Madurai Panthers TNPL 2019 Qualifier 2 is going to be played at the NPR College Ground, Dindigul. Out of 39 T20 domestic games played on this ground, 15 matches are won by the teams batting first while 24 times the teams batting second have won. Highest and lowest scores on this ground are 203/6 (Dindigul Dragons) and 59/10 (Siechem Madurai Panthers) respectively. This season, the ground has produced two tied matches in 14 games.
The teams batting first have won 9 out of 14 times. Anything above 150 looks a very good score on this pitch. The team winning the toss should bat first.
In TNPL 2019, Dindigul Dragons have won first six games in a row while SMP hasn’t lost a game in their last 5 outings. Both the teams won 6 of their 8 games played so far this season. Dindigul and Madurai’s earlier encounter in the series went in favor of Dindigul. Though no one team could be written off here, overall, Dindigul has won more matches head-to-head, so the statistics are slightly inclined towards Dindigul Dragons.
While Madurai heavily relies on one batsman - Arun Karthik, Dindigul have more players who could contribute with the bat and ball, including star all-rounder like R Ashwin. Thus, we predict that Siechem Madurai Panthers would defeat Dindigul Dragons to reach their second consecutive TNPL final.
