It is the second game of the Mzansi Super League 2019 and hosts Durban Heat would be taking on Tshwane Spartans at their home ground Kingsmead. Both sides come into this game after having out up ordinary performances in the last season. They finished at the bottom of the table and would be looking to make the perfect start to the tournament. They are packed with talent and it would be interesting to see them battle it out.
Durban Heat had defeated the Spartans in both the games they played last season and would be looking to take confidence from that. But the Spartans would like to improve their record against the Heat and with the quality batting line-up that they have it will be a treat to watch them in top gear.

It was a dismal show by the Durban Heat in the last season where they finished at the bottom of the table. Dane Vilas comes in as the new skipper and he would be looking to change the fortunes for the side this season. They had defeated Spartans twice last season and would be looking to carry that confidence into this game. They have a good batting line-up going into this game and Alex Hales will need to provide the side with a good start along with Vilas.
The middle-order has good hitters in Khaya Zondo, David Miller, Ravi Bhopara and Sarel Erwee. The side would know the importance of a big score going into this game against a strong opponent. The bowling attack has good names and Kyle Abbott and Andile Phehlukwayo will be expected to do well with the new ball for the side. Keshav Maharaj will need to keep one end tied up and the side would want to see good bowling efforts from the likes of Shaun Von Berg, Sarel Erwee and Bhopara in the game.
The Spartans didn’t have a good season in 2018 despite having one of the strongest squads and Heinrich Klaasen who has assumed captaincy this season would be looking to change that this time around. With some of the best names in this format in the side, he would definitely count his team’s chances in the first game. They have a very strong batting line-up with AB De Villiers, Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi in the top 3 and the side would rely on them to provide them with a good start in the early overs.
Heinrich Klaasen along with Roelof van der Merwe, Wiann Mulder and Petrus Van Biljon strengthens the batting for the side towards the end. Lungi Ngidi and Morne Morkel will be expected to demolish the top order with the new ball and they will love bowling on the Durban track. Lutho Sipamla had done well last season and shall look to continue from where he left. Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Wiann Mulder have to bowl tight lines and not let the opposition get away with a huge score.
There are rains likely at Durban on the 9th of November and this would make it challenging for the batsmen. The pitch is known to offer assistance to the fast bowlers and hence batsmen will need to take a cautious approach during the game. Any score in the range of 150 runs would be a fighting total in this game.
Kingsmead, Durban is a good T20 venue as it balances out between the batsmen and the bowlers. While fast bowlers do get the initial assistance with the new ball the true bounce and pace on the surface also makes the ball come on to the bat nicely. Batsmen can play their strokes easily at this venue.
The wicket offers assistance to fast bowlers and with the weather predictions being adverse it would be a huge challenge to bat on this surface. In a rain-curtailed game the side batting second will have the edge and the side winning the toss would in all likelihood bowl first on this pitch.
It is the first game of the season for both sides and last year’s performances would count little in this game.
Durban Heat is surely going to have some edge playing in its home ground but that isn’t likely to be a differentiating factor. While the bowling attack matches up well for both the teams it is in the batting department that Tshwane Spartans are looking very strong. This is likely to act as the deciding factor in the game and Spartans would start as favorites in the game.
