Match Preview

After defeating South Africa and then losing the second match to Pakistan, England needs to be more careful against the team like Bangladesh and avoid repeating the mistakes of 2015 World Cup in which they lost to Bangladesh and got knocked out. The hosts have one batsman (Joe Root), one bowler (Chris Woakes) in top 10 batting and bowling ICC rankings for the ODIs. Along with Woakes, they also have Ben Stokes in the top ten of the all-rounders’ chart.

It’s Bangladesh’s 5th World Cup and they have shown terrific progress in their journey so far. They overwhelmed South Africa in their first game of the World Cup and threatened New Zealand in their second game. Treating Bangladesh as underdogs could be a huge mistake. Their best show in the World Cups is reaching quarter-finals in 2015 and in 2018 they reached the Asia Cup Final. They must be banking upon their key player and top-ranked all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan and the strike bowler Mustafizur Rahman who holds 11th in the ICC ODI bowlers’ chart.

Teams Preview

England

The number one ODI team have won 8 out of 10 bilateral series played in the last two years. This includes the series wins against some of the big teams - Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka, India and South Africa.

In the first match of the World Cup, England thrashed South Africa by 104 runs. Ben Stokes' played a crucial inning of 79 balls 89 helping England to post 311 runs on the board. He also took two wickets and the rising star Jofra Archer grabbed 3 for 27 in 7 overs to help England seal the match inside 40 overs. The match also witnessed a half-century from the skipper Eoin Morgan. The second match must have disappointed the team especially after coming within 14 runs of winning the match while chasing Pakistan’s 348 runs. Even the centuries from Root and Buttler just fell short. The leg-breaker Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer went for 122 runs in their 15 overs together as both ended up wicketless.

In the past 12 months, Eoin Morgan has been the top scorer for England, with more than 1000 runs added in 22 innings at an average of 63.25. Joe Root also crossed 1000 runs in his last 25 innings at an average of 50.35, while Jason Roy is just 6 runs short of 1000 runs which he scored in past 20 matches. Adil Rashid with 40 wickets in just 23 innings, is the highest wicket-taker for England in past one year, followed by Liam Plunkett with 26 wickets in 17 matches. The round robin format of the tournament may not allow England to be complacent against Bangladesh and they must be aiming at winning this one comprehensively.

England Actual Playing XI:

Bangladesh

Bangladesh this time have quite a few experienced players, and this is believed to be their strongest World Cup team that they have ever had, under the captaincy of Mashrafe Mortaza. In their first outing in this World Cup, they shocked everyone by defeating South Africa by 21 runs after posting a whopping total of 330 runs. They were at an advantage as Lungi Ngidi got injured and he couldn’t complete his quota of overs. Mushfiqur Rahim (78) and Shakib Al Hasan (75) added 142 runs for the third wicket to lay the foundation for the big total. Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin collected 5 wickets between them to stop South Africa’s run chase. In the second match against New Zealand, Shakib Al Hasan scored his yet another half-century (64 off 68) and helped the team to post a decent score of 244. Hossain and Saifuddin bowled exceptionally well taking 2 wickets each and made the run chase quite difficult for New Zealand, eventually losing by just two wickets.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the key batsman for Bangladesh as he has amassed 937 runs in his past 23 innings. Mustafizur Rahman collected 35 wickets in previous 21 matches while the skipper Mashrafe Mortaza picket 27 wickets in last 24 matches. It’s going to be yet another interesting match from Bangladesh’s perspective.

Pitch And Weather Conditions

Toss Prediction

The team winning toss should opt to field first, as out of 22 matches in which we got the results, 15 won by the team batting second.

Winning Prediction

Bangladesh has stunned 3rd ranked South Africa in the opening match and it's not impossible to repeat the show against the top-ranked team - England. However, England has got the depth in their batting with the likes of Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett. Also, with the players like Morgan, Root, Buttler, Bairstow in the team, England look daunting. Though they do not have good statistics against Bangladesh in the World Cups, this England team is unique and formidable. Playing in front of their home crowd and known conditions, it should not be a tough task for them to defeat England.

Thus, we predict England to win the match against Bangladesh.
