T&Cs apply, 18+
England started as tournament favorites and apart from the loss against Pakistan the team has done exceedingly well in the tournament so far. They have been destroying opponents who have come their way. In their next game at Headingley, Leeds the hosts would take on Sri Lanka. The Lankans have had a bad tournament so far and managed only a single win against Afghanistan. The team has not been able to play as a good unit with their batting having let them down on most occasions.
In the recent ODIs that have been played between the two sides, England has dominated Sri Lanka. In the last eight games, Sri Lanka has managed to win only once. Considering the performance we have seen from them so far in the tournament the Lankan side will need to do something special to defeat the hosts.

Eoin Morgan played a captain’s knock in their last victory against Afghanistan. The side has been humiliating its opponents in most of the games we have seen them play and would be eyeing their two points and a berth in the semi-finals in the next game. The team has been too good for its opponents and Morgan would want his side to play to its potential in the next game.
Jonny Bairstow is in brilliant form this tournament and did well in the next game but the star of the show was skipper Morgan who created a new record of 17 sixes in one innings in the last game. Joe Root, James Vince and Jos Buttler have all been in good form this tournament. Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes have great hitting abilities and they have shown this on more than one occasion in the tournament.
Jofra Archer has been brilliant with the ball in this tournament and has been troubling all opponents. Mark Wood has bowled in the right channels and picked wickets at regular intervals in the tournament. Adil Rashid also done well for the side in the middle overs and would look to continue with the same form. The presence of Moeen Ali, Stones and Woakes makes the bowling attack look extremely strong.

Dimuth Karunaratne would have been upset with his side’s performance in the last game. They bowled poorly against Australia and when the top order had laid the perfect platform for what would have been a memorable chase a familiar batting collapse watered all hopes for the skipper. The story has been the same for the side in most games and the skipper would hope the side does well against England.
The Sri Lankan batting has been all about two players Kusal Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne and it was no different in the last game. They put up 115 for the first wicket and the rest of the wickets fell for another 132 runs. Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews didn’t bat according to the demands of the situation and added one more loss to their recent record which has been poor.
Isuru Udana and Dhananjaya de Silva bowled well in the last game but the rest of the bowlers were torn apart by the Australian batsmen. Lasith Malinga looks completely out of form in the tournament while Nuwan Pradeep and Thisara Perera have done well only in patches. They will have to bowl well as a unit to prevent the English side from doing what it does best and i.e. to destroy the opposition.

It is expected to be a sunny day at Leeds on June 21 and this would be a welcome break from the gloomy weather we have seen so far. It will be a fresh pitch which offers some assistance to the bowlers initially but will be a good wicket to bat on and we are most like to witness another high scoring encounter.
It will be a new surface and a good one to bat on for any team if they are able to see off the new ball. With the sun being out stroke making should be easy. The captain winning the toss shouldn’t have any hesitation in his mind regarding the decision to bat first on this wicket.
The English team has been professional to the core in this tournament so far. With four wins in five games, they are sitting on the top of the points table at the moment and look all set for a place in the semi-finals. Sri Lankans have struggled so far in the tournament and have one win to their name and would consider themselves to be lucky as they have shared points in two abandoned games given the form they are in at the moment. Going into this game England is miles ahead of Sri Lanka and look all set to win the game.
