Jason Holder showed exemplary leadership to see West Indies notch up a famous win at Southampton. The side will be hoping that players like Shai Hope, Shamarh Brooks and John Campbell can deliver runs in this Test.
Opener Kraigg Brathwaite found form with the bat in the first innings for West Indies. He played exceedingly and notched up a much-needed half-century. He scored 65 runs off 125 balls with the help of six fours. Besides Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks looked in decent touch with the bat and scored 39 runs off 71 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Roston Chase also showed a lot of fight and determination and put on an 81-run partnership with wicket-keeper batsman Shane Dowrich. He scored 47 runs off 142 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Shane Dowrich stood tall with the bat in the first innings and did well to notch up first half-century in England. He played well and scored 61 runs off 115 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Chasing 200 runs for victory, opener Kraigg Brathwaite, Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks perished for low scores to see West Indies reduced to 27 for 3. Roston Chase and Jermaine Blackwood came together and put on a match-defining partnership of 73 runs.
Roston Chase once again fell 12 runs short of scoring a half-century. He smashed one boundary in his innings.
In the second innings, Jermaine Blackwood proved to be star of the show with the bat. He stitched crucial partnerships with Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich to take West Indies close to the target.
Blackwood finished the innings with the top-score of 95 runs off 154 balls with the help of 12 boundaries. He was well supported by Captain Jason Holder, who chipped in with unbeaten 14 runs to help West Indies register a close win at The Ageas Bowl.
