Match Preview

Hosts England Women would start off the next leg of the Ashes against archrivals Australia Women at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. The Only Test Match of the series holds great significance for the hosts as they have been white-washed in the ODI series 3-0. They have been outplayed in all the games barring the first ODI and would be looking to turn their fortunes around in red-ball cricket.

The two sides have shared a great rivalry in Test Matches over the years with Australia having won 12 Test Matches and England emerging victorious on nine occasions. They are the best sides in the world and England Women have suffered big losses in the ODI series are likely to come hard at the Australians and this would make it an interesting game of cricket.

Teams Preview

England Women

Heather Knight would know the importance of this game after her side lost out in the ODI leg of the series. Despite having a good bunch of players they couldn’t match up to the standards of the Australian team. With pride at stake in front of the home crowd, the team is likely to put its best foot forward.

Tammy Beaumont has been the only batter who took on the Australian attack during the ODIs and lot would depend on her. The team would also be looking at the likes of Amy Ellen Jones, Sarah Taylor, Heather Knight and Fran Wilson to do well in the game. The English top-order needs to fire in the game for the side to win.

Anya Shrubsole did well with the ball in the ODIs but the rest of the bowlers weren’t able to provide good support to her. Kate Cross, Katherine Brunt, and Sophie Ecclestone will need to pitch the ball in the right areas and pick up wickets for the side to do well against the strong batting line-up that Australia has.

England Women Predicted Playing XI

Heather Knight (c), Anya Shrubsole, Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Amy Ellen Jones, Laura Marsh, Sarah Taylor (wk), Natalie Sciver, Kate Cross, Fran Wilson, Sophie Ecclestone

Australia Women

Meg Lanning would be proud with the way her team has played in the ODI series and as they play the only Test Match of the series she would like to continue with the winning momentum. They gave a good side and have done well in all the departments so far in this tour. A win would serve the side world of good.

Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning have been in great form at the top of the order and would look to provide a good start to the side. Ellyse Perry, Nicole Bolton, Rachael Haynes, and Beth Mooney complete a good batting line-up for the side and they would be relishing the opportunity at hand.

Ellyse Perry has been too good with the ball in the series so far and shall look to continue with her rhythm. Megan Schutt, Jess Jonassen, and Ashleigh Gardner will need to support her well for them to trouble the English batters.

Australia Women Predicted Playing XI

Rachael Haynes, Megan Schutt, Alyssa Healy (wk), Meg Lanning (c), Ellyse Perry, Jess Jonassen, Nicole Bolton, Delissa Kimmince, Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham

Pitch And Weather Conditions

The weather is likely to play around a bit in Taunton between July 18 and 21 with expectations of rains on Day 2 and 3 during the game. The pitch would assist the fast bowlers during the start and begin to offer assistance to the spinners from Day 2 given the amount of cricket that has been played here during this busy season.

VENUE

The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton being a small ground has been a good place for the batters. The track has traditionally assisted the fast bowlers early in the innings and also the spinners as the pitch starts to wear down. Batters who dig their ground on this wicket have done well historically.

Toss Prediction

The side winning the toss would like to bat first on this wicket as the pitch is likely to get slower as the game progresses and batting on Day 4 would be quite a challenge. With predictions for overcast conditions on Day 2 and 3 it is going to be a big challenge for the side losing the toss.

Winning Prediction

The two teams are well balanced and this would make the game interesting. While the form of the women in white-ball cricket isn’t likely to have too much of impact on the red ball game Australia Women would definitely carry confidence from their win in the ODI series. The English Women have shown some signs of tentativeness in the series so far and this would make Australia Women favorites to win this Test Match.
