India Women have some of the finest batsmen like Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. However, in Australia, against the home side, the batting unit collapsed like a pack of cards which enabled the hosts to chase the humble target quite comfortably. Harmanpreet Kaur earlier guided the side to 5-wickets win over English Women team, but against Australia Women, the entire batting unit failed. Tayla Vlaeminck was remarkable with the ball for Australia, while Perry’s all-round performance awarded her the player of the match. Australia Women were unfortunate to lose the match against England Women in the one-over eliminator.

Australia Women played two matches so far in this tournament. In their first game at Canberra against England Women, Perry bowled exceptionally well for her 4 overs 9-for-1, to restrict the visitors under 160, and Mooney’s half-century along with Sutherland’s 11-balls 22 took the game to the super-over as they leveled England Women’s score of 156 in 20 overs. In the super-over, they could barely score 8 runs which England Women chased easily thanks to a couple of fours conceded by Perry to Knight. Against India Women, Perry and Vlaeminck together picked 7 scalps, conceding just 26 runs in their 8 overs, and Perry went on to score 49 runs in 47 balls to chase down India Women’s humble total of 103 runs in 18.5 overs.

India Women team started the tournament with the win over England Women team thanks to Kaur’s unbeaten 34-balls 42. Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2-for-19) Shikha Pandey (2-for 33) and Deepti Sharma(2-for-30) collectively restricted English players under 150. The run-chase led by Kaur was successfully completed in 19.3 overs. Against the hosts team, except Mandhana (23-balls 35) and Kaur (32-balls 28), none could cross even 15 runs, while 8 of their players got out in single digits and two on ducks. Defending 104 was then a daunting task, and Sharma (18 for 1) and Gayakwad (18 for 2) did a splendid job though and Yadav too helped with her 23-for-1 spell. Eventually, the game could not be extended beyond 19th over, as Australia Women chased down the score and defeated India Women by 4 wickets.
