Match Preview

The England and South Africa women team will commence their T20 World Cup 2020 on Sunday at historic WACA stadium in Perth.

England, the runner-up of the 2018 T20 World Cup, are ones again in the favourites to win this year tournament. Since the last World Cup, England have played 17 matches, which is second most amongst the other team in the world cup and notably, they have a winning record of more than 70 percent. However, they are coming to this series on the back of poor performance in Tri-series against India and Australia where they won only one out of four T20 games. But, England are the champion side and they will be eyeing to put a strong show in all aspects of the game in their first game of the tournament and get momentum.

On the other hand, the South Africa team has failed to consistently produce good performances as since the last World Cup they won just eight out 16 T20 games. In their most recent T20 outing, South Africa team lost three out of four T20 against New Zealand. The Proteas would have rectified the mistakes in preparation for the World Cup and would look to start positively. Lee and Du Preez have been the pillars of the South African batting line-up and their success would be important for proteas to go into the long way in the tournament. Proteas have got all base covered and they will aim to upset the tournament favorites England.

Teams Preview

England Women

After winning the inaugural Women’s T20 world cup in 2009 England Women team has failed to reclaim the title in the last three World cups. However, this time they have got a pretty balanced squad and they are certainly one of the favorites to win 2020 title.

In batting, England is relying heavily on key players- Tammy Beaumont, Danielle Wyatt, and Amy Jones to do the bulk of the scoring. Danielle Wyatt has been in great form lately. In the recently concluded T20 Tri-series, she was the top scorer with 213 runs from 5 T20 games. She would look to carry on the good form. Also, captain Heather Knight is in red-hot form with the bat and ball. She also did impressively well in the recently concluded Tri-nation series.

All-rounder Natalie Sciver also in great form in recent times. She was the second-best English player in the tri-series. Notably, she ranked third in the ICC T20 women all-rounder ranking. She would look contribute with both bat and ball.

In the bowling department, seam bowling seems to be the strongest point for England with Sciver, Brunt, Shrubsole, Davies, and Elwiss in the side. The bowling has a lot of variety and holds a balanced look. One of the favorites going into the tournament, England's balance and depth in the squad is their biggest strength.

South Africa Women

South Africa record in the T20 World Cup is not great as in all the earlier six editions of the Women’s T20 World Cup they have failed to make it beyond the semi-final of the tournament in any of those appearances. This time Proteas have named experienced squad and they will be desperate to put some poor efforts behind them in the 2020 version of the tournament.

With some key players back in the side, South Africa possesses a strong look. The all-rounders and power-hitters are the biggest strength for the Proteas. The batting has a formidable look with Van Niekerk, Lee and Du Preez all being in good form, and the depth in batting with Kapp and Tryon might prove to be handy in crunch games. The problem of plenty in the batting department will hold them in good stead.

The destructive Lizelle Lee will be expected to take the attack to the opposition, bringing in the X-factor with the bat. Du Preez and skipper Van Niekerk, with their experience, will be the batting mainstays for the team.

On the bowling front, South Africa has one of the strongest pace attacks in the world at the moment. The dependable Marizanne Kapp and the pacy Shabnim Ismail hold the key for South Africa in the bowling department.

The weather forecast for the game to be played on Sunday will be partly cloudy and temperature will be around 29-degree Celsius. The pitch at the WACA is regarded as one of the quickest and bounciest in the world, the outfield is also exceptionally fast. Over the last decade, the surface has flattened out, but efforts are on to bring back the WACA surface of old - a terrifying proposition for the batsmen.

Toss Prediction

As it is just forty overs game and WACA offers good surface which is unlikely to change during the second inning. Also, both the team will be playing their first match of the tournament team would look to chase the score.

Hence, the toss winning team is expected to bowl first.

Winning Prediction

England women team is a strong one on paper when compared with the South African side. Besides, England got a great win record in T20 encounters. On the other hand, the South Africa team has the bowling power to upset the batting of the English team. It will be an interesting game to watch.
