The league matches are done and dusted. While teams like Tridents, St Kitts and Knight Riders were fighting to position themselves in the second spot, Warriors have achieved the rare feat of staying at the top spot throughout the tournament with 10 wins out of 10 games. The clean sheet doesn’t mean that they were never troubled, but they have handled those situations well to come out on top, the hall-mark of a champion team.
In their penultimate league game against the Tallawahs, Warriors lost 4 wickets in 4 balls with both Hetmyer and Pooran falling the first ball while Brandon King and Hemraj made just 1 and 2 respectively. Only two wickets would fall in the rest of the innings though, as captain Shoaib Malik, first alongside Rutherford and then Keemo Paul, engineered a superb recovery with an unbeaten 73 from 45 to set a target of 157. It was enough for the Warriors spinners to work out their magic, and they didn’t disappoint bundling the opposition for 79. In their final league game, Warriors were nothing short of brilliance as Hemraj’ s 3/13 restricted the TKR to a below-par 143/5. Another test for the middle order with the scorecard reeling at 59/3, Malik shepherded Pooran to secure their 10th win by 7 wickets.
Tridents, on the other hand, kept their hopes of a top-two finish alive with a 7-wicket victory over TKR. Having restricted Knight Riders to just 134/8, tridents got home on the back of Charles’s 55 to leapfrog their opponents and St Kitts to the second position in the CPL table. They have bad memories to forget though, as they failed to cross the 140 marks in both their meeting against the Warriors. Convincing win for Warriors by a margin of 47 runs in their first meet and 12 runs in the rain-hit second meet.

GAW strangled the opposition with spin, the openers set the ball rolling with the bat while Malik holds the innings together among the explosive batsmen. This has been their template this season. Their top 4 featuring in the tournament’s leading run-scorer list is a proof of their batting dominance. King has 321, Hemraj 271, Malik 281 and Hetmyer 212 from their 10 games so far. They have redefined the powerplay with 6 overs of spin. Their seamers have hardly bowled and are used mainly when the due comes into the picture. Laughlin and Keemo Paul have done a good job when forced to bowl with those wet balls.
Key Players:
Shoaib Malik: The Warriors skipper has remained not out in 7 out of the 10 innings played averaging close to 100. His offices have been productive so far and have scores of 30 and 73 in his last two knocks.
Chris Green: 13 wickets from 10 matches don’t show the pressure he has imposed on the opposition batting in the powerplay overs. An economy of 5 in the powerplay and his batting prowess has gone untested.
The Tridents are on a two-match winning streak. Alex Hales showed some glimpses of his best in a 54-run stand with their consistent opener Charles, hitting 6 crisp fours. Their middle order has loads of experience with Shakib and Duminy. Both are among runs and add options to their spin table. Holder will be pleased with the inclusion of Gurney solving their death over woes with 9 wickets from 5 innings. Holder has been their powerplay bowler grabbing 12 wickets and his job has eased since the arrival of Shakib. The story of the tournament so far is that of their star leggie Hayden Walsh, announcing himself in the absence of Lamichhane.
Key Players:
Shakib Al Hasan: A big match player would love to convert his starts to a big score. Their best player of spin needs to marshal their unit against the Warriors spin barrage. He can inflict some threat to the opposition with his lefties and has 4 wickets with an economy under 5.
Hayden Walsh: 17 wickets from 6 games is a dream tournament for any bowler and he will be the key in making the warriors taste their own medicine in their backyard with Shakib and Duminy’s company.

There is a rainy forecast during the day in Guyana, but clear skies during game time. Wet fields might come into the equation.
The pitch has been a den for the Guyana spinners and Tridents will have little worries as they match the opposition in the spin department. An average score of 147 scored in this season and with rain and due around, this contest would offer more runs.
Teams chasing have won 3 matches so far in the 5 matches. Knock out games always add a bit of pressure and both teams will be wary of that and will look to put runs on board rather than chasing.
The 4-time runners up will look to avenge those demons and move one step close to the title which has evaded them. They will know their 10 out of 10 will have more meaning if and only if they win 2 out of 2 from this playoff. Tridents have it in them to pull an upset with their spin attack.
Guyana Amazon Warriors will win the match and enter the CPL finals!
