CRICBETTINGBUZZ PREDICTION: Hubli Tigers to win!
T&Cs apply, 18+
Two teams with equal points, square off against each other for a place in the next stage of the competition. The finalists from the last edition, the Bengaluru Blasters will be looking to replicate the performance from last year whereas the Hubli Tigers will be looking to make it to the last four, something which they missed last year. Both teams have had a disappointing season so far, but this contest provides an opportunity to atone for it and make the tournament memorable. Not only do the teams have to win but win convincingly to improve their run rate after the ridiculous run chase by the Mysuru Warriors.
Both teams chances to qualify for the next stage look slim and to get through they will need their batsmen to fire in all cylinders. The likes of Mohammed Taha, Praveen Dubey, Rohan Kadam, and Sharath B R are expected to score heavy runs to provide their bowlers with a fighting chance.

The Hubli Tigers had a disappointing start with two losses in their first two games. However, they turned it around with two efficient performances against the Belagavi Panthers and Bijapur Bulls. The unexpected loss to the Mysuru Warriors in the previous match has put them in this situation where they have to win to be part of the qualifiers. The batsmen have been disappointing but Praveen Dubey was able to pull out the rescue act on multiple occasions and keeping them in the hunt. He will expect better support from his batsmen to put a challenging total on the board and let the likes of Vinay Kumar do their thing with the ball.
Key Players:
Praveen Dubey: The allrounder has on occasions single-handedly kept the Hubli Tigers in the game with his late order cameos. The top order has failed to click collectively leaving the Royal Challengers player to repair the innings and help them put a decent total on the board. More of the same will be expected from the right-hander in this crucial encounter. He will also be expected to bowl crucial overs in the middle with his leg spinners.
Vinay Kumar: The old warhorse who has announced his retirement from Karnataka cricket would like to bow out with an impressive performance in this tournament. He has the responsibility as the captain to get the best out of the younger guys and provide guidance. Vinay who has had a mediocre season so far will be looking to contribute with both bat and ball and ensure his side end on the right side of the points table.

The runners up from the last edition, the Bengaluru Blasters have had a horror run with losses and rain interruptions defining their campaign. They have only 1 win in the competition and that too was a narrow victory with the help of the VJD method. Their batsmen are horribly out of form and their collective failure has meant they reside at one place above last in the points table. It’s in this scenario that they are expected to win this game with a healthy net run-rate to keep hopes of qualification to the next stage alive.
Key Players:
Sharath BR: The wicketkeeper who also opens the batting has had the only innings of note for the Blasters this season and even that did not help them in setting up a big total. The aggressive opener who’s selected for India Under 23 squad will be looking to make an impression to the selectors. He will have to combine with the exciting Rohan Kadam and provide a strong start if the Blasters have any chances of surviving in this tournament.
Anand Doddamani: The left-arm spinner who was one of the most economical bowlers in the last edition of the KPL, was bought back by the Bengaluru Blasters in this year’s auctions. He has been brilliant in this season as well and has been the most frugal bowler in this year’s competition. It’s a pity that the batsmen have not put enough runs on the board to ensure his magnificent bowling be rewarded with the results it deserves. He will be looking for one final effort wherein the Blasters will be required to restrict the Tigers to a low score.

The pitches have been very conducive for batting and the small ground has ensured high totals being chased with ease. The Mysuru Warriors chased down a record score of 240 in the previous game indicating that it is very little in the pitch for the bowlers. The wickets will most likely behave the same for the rest of the games and the batsmen will be lining up to get a shot. We have been lucky with the weather in Mysore so far and even though there is rain predicted, both teams will be hoping for a complete match.
VENUE
The Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground has been an excellent host so far with highly entertaining contests. The spectators have been served an array of brilliant batsmanship. The batsmen friendly pitches and the short boundaries mean this pattern is going to continue for the rest of the tournament. The groundsmen will be hoping there is no weather interruption and we get complete games.
With small grounds and batting friendly decks being the norm, the captain winning the toss will have no hesitation in choosing to field first. All the four games played in Mysore so far have been won by the team batting second and the captains are sure to be aware of that fact. The bowling team will have to pick up wickets in the power play to have any hope of restricting the batsmen to a decent score.
Both teams come into the game on the back of heavy defeats which has left them fighting for their survival in the tournament. The Bengaluru Blasters have a bigger task at hand as they must overturn a huge net run-rate deficit to even stand a chance to finish among the top four whereas the Hubli Tigers have a relatively easier task. Both teams will be looking to not be eliminated this early in the competition and this promises to be an enthralling contest.
Based on the current form of both teams, the Hubli Tigers are our slight favorite to win this game.
