The first Eliminator in the KPL history is going to be played between the Shivamogga Lions and Hubli Tigers. Their Journey to Final will only be half done for one of these teams, as they need to face Belagavi Panthers in the Qualifier 2 to reach the grand finale.
The downfall continued for the Lions as they lost their third match in succession. Their NRR did not help them but they qualified on a greater number of wins than the other teams who finished on the same points. The horrendous bowling continued for Lions as they opted to bowl in their match against the bulls. Lions managed to remove Chipli cheaply for 3 runs, but Bhatkal and Naveen took full toll of the awful Lions bowling in their 80-run partnership. Rishab Singh who dismissed Chipli earlier came back to claim Acharya and ended with figures of 2/21 from 4 overs which is their stand out bowling figure by a big margin in last 3 games. Suneel added to the woes of the lions as Bulls finished with 195/4. The chase started well for the lions as the opening pair of Ullal and Hoysala added 62 in the powerplay. Despite the loss of Ullal, Hoysalatook care of the scoring rate with a 39 ball 69. The middle-order scored only run a ball which left too much at the end.
Nidish ’s 22 ball 45 was not enough to take them home as they fell short by 17 runs. Hubli Tigers continued their impressive run with 3 wins in last four matches. Opting to bowl, Tigers struck early as Somana sent both the openers back without having much impact on the score. They picked wickets at regular intervals and they never let the Blasters out of their reach. Right arm medium David Mathias finished with 4/30, but it was their spin combo of Mitrakanth and Shreyas Gopal which did the damage as they kept a lid on the scoring rate and they gave just 32 off 7 overs with 2 wickets. Chasing 159, they lost Sisodia for a duck and to everyone’s surprise the skipper Vinay Kumar came to bat. He not only surprised with his arrival but also with his batting as he scored 81 off 51. Taha played the supporting role with 48 off 31. Their skipper took them across the finish line and they chased the target with more than 2 overs to spare

The inclusion of Shreyas Gopal strengthens their already good spin group of Mitrakanth and Praveen Dubey. Their pace department is equally good as they have taken more than 20 wickets this season, Somanna and Mathias topping the charts with 8 wickets each. Their batsman Taha and Dubey are in the decent run, but it is their skipper’s new avatar which will be on the spotlight ahead of the eliminator.
Shreyas Gopal: The leggie will try to recreate the same horror his Rajasthan Royals bowling mate Gowtham created to the same opposition. He is a pretty good striker and will look to showcase his skills completely.
Praveen Dubey: He has been their finisher and has scores of 52, 27 and 33 in his last three outings. He has scored them at an incredible strike rate of over 180.

Rishab Singh who was part of the first three matches came back to give some light to the otherwise dark tunnel of Lions bowling. The Reason why their skipper Mithun under bowls himself is still unknown. He has not completed his full quota in most of the matches. The trend continued as most of their bowlers ended with an economy rate more than 10 in their third consecutive game. Their batting seems to be the only hope if they have any chance of winning this match. One of their openers have contributed in all the matches and they will look to continue that trend.
Arjun Hoysala: He has already crossed the 200 marks this season. His last two innings of 69 off 39 and 77 off 58 will do his confidence a world of good.
Rishabh Singh: The left-arm spinner who returned with 2 wickets after being dropped will try to lift the spirits of their bowling. He is the only bowler who has not conceded more than 10 per over in the Lions bowling unit.
The Weather has stayed clear for most of the matches in Mysore and the same pattern will be continued. Pitch looks flat and already there are four 200 plus scores so far in this stadium. Watch out for another run-fest.
In these knock-out matches, it is better to post some decent first innings total and make the chasing team feel the pressure of getting eliminated.
Taking the form into considerationTigers are clear favorites to win this encounter against the Lions. With their batting looking good so far, they will look to continue their solid performance once more. But their trump card is their spin duo of Gopal and Mitrakanth. If they take control of the middle overs, it will be a cake-walk. But you never know in these knock-outs one over can shift momentum completely.
