Australia is on a tour of India to play a three-match ODI series. The series is currently leveled at 1-1 with the decider to be played on 19th Jan in Bengaluru. After the humiliating defeat in the first ODI by 10 wickets, the Indian team turned up all guns blazing in the second ODI at Rajkot and registered a series leveling comprehensive win by 36 runs. A target of 340 was too much for the visitors two overcome despite superb knocks from their Test stalwarts - Smith and Labuschagne.
With the series leveled and two world-class ODI outfits fighting for the decider, it certainly promises to a game for the ages on Sunday at Bengaluru’s M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

It must have been a relief for India to win an ODI at home after 4 straight defeats including 3 in the previous series in 2019 and the one in the series opener a few days back. The loss in the first ODI was also the first time since 2005 that India lost by 10 wickets. In 2005, India lost to South Africa by 10 wickets.
India has been struggling to get the middle order combination right which has resulted in them putting a below-par score in the first ODI. The second ODI, though, marked a turn around for India. Dhawan, who missed the century by just 4 runs, continued his good form, supported by captain Kohli (78) and then KL Rahul, batting out of position at 5, provided the required impetus in the end with a quickfire 80 of just 52 deliveries to help India post a par score of 340.
The bowlers lead by Bumrah were tight enough from the beginning, and despite some gutsy resistance from Australia’s middle order, they managed to bundle the Aussies for 304 in 50 overs. Mohammed Shami (13 wickets in last 9 matches) and Jasprit Bumrah (9 wickets in the last 5 matches) are the top bowlers for India. KL Rahul, Kohli and Dhawan would need to continue their batting for if India is to clinch the series on Sunday at Bengaluru.

After a near-impossible win by 10 wickets in the first ODI, the Aussies must have expected India to come hard at them in the second ODI and India did not disappoint. However, Finch probably missed a trick by not batting first on a very flat track at Rajkot after winning the toss. Not only did that help India put on a big score but also helped the batters get in the form which might trouble the Aussies in the series decider.
The flat conditions had Australia wait for the first wicket of Rohit Sharma till the 14th over. The Aussie bowlers did try to contain the scoring rate but India motored along around run-a-ball till about 30th over without losing many wickets. Australia got Dhawan and Iyer in quick succession and looked set to put the breaks on but KL Rahul’s cameo, in the end, had them staring at a huge total (341) to chase. An off day for Mitchell Starc did not help either.
The scoreboard pressure eventually turned out to be the decider despite conditions being good enough to chase this big total down. Smith (98) and Labucshagne (46) continued their rich vein of form but could not see the team through after early dismissal of Warner and a slowish start by captain Finch (33 off 48 balls). They eventually fell short by 36 runs. Australia are a tough team to beat and they would be keen to show that in the decider.

It is going to be perfect conditions in Bengaluru on Sunday to play the game of cricket. The weather is expected to be partly sunny and beautiful with daytime temperature to reach about 29°C and at night it would be around 16°C. There is just a 1% chance of precipitation. All in all, cracking conditions for the players and the viewers alike.
The match will be played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is one of those rare grounds where Toss does not matter much. Of the 25 ODIs played at this venue so far, an equal number have been won by teams batting first and second. It is preferable to chase at such venues.
The team winning the toss should Bowl first here.
The third ODIs setting up to be another nail biter in an already hard-fought series. India and Australia will be giving it all to get the series in the pocket. Australia would want to repeat what they did in the first game whereas India would be looking to build on the confidence of the win in the second one. India do not like losing, especially, not at home. We can expect them to come even harder in the decider at Bengaluru.
Our prediction is that India will win the third ODI and with it the series 2-1!
