The first game of the two-match test series between India and Bangladesh will be played at Holker stadium in Indore. In the five day game, the host side is very fearsome, as after beating South Africa in their last test series at home, they have recorded 11th consecutive home series win. The statistics itself exhibit the kind of test cricket Indian team is playing and it truly justifies why they are currently the top-ranked test team.
Besides, in batting, home side possesses four of the ICC top-10 batsmen – Virat Kohli, C Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma. In bowling and all-rounder list as well, R Ashwin and R Jadeja are amongst top-ranked. The host would be aiming for a similar performance and pile-up the win record.
On the other hand, Bangladesh would be taking inspiration from their maiden win against the host in the recently concluded T-20 at home. Bangladesh ended 2018 in fine form in Test matches by winning their last three against Zimbabwe followed by two against West Indies, but they have been in poor form in 2019 losing all three matches played including the last one against Afghanistan in September which was particularly disappointing.
The Bangladesh test team, led by newly-appointed skipper Mominul Haque would need to play the best brand of cricket to challenge India in the five-day game. In the absence of a few key players, the visiting team would be relying heavily on Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to score the bulk of runs. The side would be hoping for another historic moment of beating India first time in a test match and break the 7 match losing streak.

The whole Indian team will take great confidence from their dominant 3-0 win over South Africa in October which they will look to repeat against Bangladesh here. The home side has played stupendously over the last couple of years to defeat the formidable opponent in difficult conditions. All their batsmen, pacers and spinners are playing their role to perfections in recent times. Star-studded Indian batting is led by skipper Virat Kohli, arguably one of the best batsmen in world cricket at the moment. He is currently ranked second among test batsmen. He is world-class and always found the way of scoring runs at all levels. He average 54 in test matches and with 735 runs he is currently the top scorer for India last year.
Another top-order batsman, C Pujara has been India’s second-highest scorer in last year; scored 726 runs from the last 15 innings at an average of 48.40. Newly formed opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agrawal also played remarkably well in the last series, both got great success against proteas. They would be keen to carry on the good form. In the middle order, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahnane and Hanuman Vihari also done well in the last couple of series.
They provide great stability in the middle order batting. Indian bowling unit is very formidable which can run through the Bangladeshi batting line-up. Pacer Mohammed Shami has been in stupendous form with the red ball, he picked 38 wickets from the last 18 games at an average of 20.28. Left Arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja also supported him well, picked 26 wickets from the last 13 games. R Ashwin would be the other lead spinner in the side, he is fastest to 300 test wickets and holds a very strong record in Indian conditions.

Bangladesh won the hearts of cricket fans around the world with its performances in the T20 series against India. The young side fought really hard in all three games. However, it won't be easy for visitors to challenge against the star-studded Indian test team. Tamim Iqbal and Shakin Al Hasan are not going to be a part of the Bangladesh squad for this series. Imrul Kayes and Shadman Islam are expected to open the batting in his absence. Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mosaddek Hossain are the other players that should form the batting lineup.
Batting all-rounder Mahmudullah has been the leading scorer for Bangladesh in recent times, he scored 432 runs from the last 9 innings at an average of 48.00. He is a very good player of spin and the team would want him to hold the one batting end against the quality Indian spinners and play an anchored inning. Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Al-Amin Hossain could be the bowlers to take part in this match. This will end up giving Bangladesh two genuine spinners and two fast bowlers.
A spinning duo of Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam in great form in recent times, they picked 20 and 18 wickets respectively from the last seven test innings. Bowling unit needs to be more disciplined against the batting heavy Indian line-up. They need to take wickets to restrict India from scoring massive runs. Key Players – Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan

The weather in Indore on Thursday is sunshine forecast all day. And humidity will be hovering around 31 c.
The wicket at the Holkar stadium usually favours the batsmen. With even bounce and short boundaries coming into play, batsmen tend to rule the roost.
Earlier, only one test match has been played at this venue and the team batting first won that match. Average first inning score is 557 while in the fourth inning it is 153. Spinner is expected to get more assistance from the pitch in the fourth inning. Hence, toss winning side would look to bat first at this venue.
India is absolutely flying in all formats of the game right now but they seem to be prioritizing Test matches and the new Test Championship. They have played five games in the tournament so far and have dominated twice against West Indies and three times against South Africa, so with a strong squad selected, they figure to ease to victory against Bangladesh.
Their batting should simply prove far too strong for the tourists, and the bowling unit should have no trouble dispensing of the Bangladeshi batsmen. Hence we predict India are outright favorites and will easily win the opening game of the series.
