Match Preview

The second game of the three-match test series between India and South Africa will be played at the MCA stadium in Pune. India won the first game of the series very comprehensively and took the 1-0 lead in the series.

In the last game, the home side produced the clinical performance in all aspects of the game. In batting, Rohit Sharma was the main protagonist as he slammed twin hundred. Promoted to open the batting first time in Test, he made the most of the opportunity. Bowlers also collectively did a great job to take 20 wickets in the game. Overall, India’s home record in the past 10 years in test format is stellar as India won the last 10 consecutive test series at home and the win record is 94%.

Indian team would look carry on the momentum to win the second test of the series and record 12th consecutive series win at home, most by any team. On the contrary, the South African team fought hard in the first inning of the last game to get close to India’s score however the side crumbled in the second inning. In last game, bowlers failed to take wickets at a regular interval that allow India to set the tone for victory. In batting, Dean Elgar and De Kock were outstanding, both scored a century in the first inning.

Skipper Faf Du Plessis is likely to make changes in the second game to get balance in batting and spin bowling. Unlike opponent spinners, Keshav Maharaj, the African front line spinner failed to make a similar impact. He needs to play a huge role for proteas success in the series as spin factor play major more than pace. South Africa will be aiming to bounce back and save the series.

Proteas after being comprehensively beaten on all three fronts in the last game will be looking for clinical performance to get a win and level the series. The visiting team is thin on the batting experience as they without the services of their veteran players who have recently retired. Unlike opponents, the African side would be relying heavily on their experienced player in the squad; Dena Elgar, Du Plessis, De Kock.

Dean Elgar played a good knock in the first inning to rescue the team from a difficult situation. His partner, Aiden Markram failed quickly. The batting duo needs to provide a good start against the formidable Indian side. Skipper Faf Du Plessis has been also in great touch in recent times, scored 372 runs from the last 10 innings. However, he would be looking to play marathon inning and hold the one batting end. He is the vital cog in proteas batting line up and his good form is very important for Africa. Wicket keeper batsman, Quinton De Kock has been the leading scorer for the proteas in last year; scored 584 runs from just 10 innings at an average of 58.40. It also includes his century in the last game. He is a very destructive player and can take the game away from the opponent in a session.

On the bowling front, Keshav Maharaj is the leading spinner in the side. He was ordinary in the last game; opponent batsmen didn’t face any resistance during his spell. He would be looking to come up with much better performance and make use of the favorable conditions. The pace attack will be led by Kagiso Rabada. He is ranked second among test bowlers. He needs to be at his best against the beating heavy Indian side. Key Players - Quinton De Kock, Faf du Plessis, Keshav Maharaj

Earlier, only one test match has been played at this venue. The team batting first won the lone test match. Average first inning score is 260 while in the fourth inning it is 107.

Winning Prediction

India is very intimidating at home conditions. Furthermore, they are very batting heavy sides. Their bowlers got all the skills to pick 20 wickets in a game. Hence we predict India are outright favorites and will easily win the second game of the series.
