The second game of the three-match T-20 series between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on 7th January. The first game of the series was abandoned due to damp pitch and hence this match now takes on more importance, as a win for either team will ensure that they won't lose the series. India is coming into this contest on the back of T20I series victories against Bangladesh and West Indies respectively and they will be hopeful of a similar level of performances against Sri Lanka. The focus will be on Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan who are returning to the side from injury. The ‘Men in Blue’ hold an impressive record against Sri Lanka and they will look to preserve that in the series.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will look to restore some pride after a 3-0 thrashing in Australia. Veteran Angelo Mathews has been drafted in for the T20 after a long break and his experience will be vital against the formidable Indian unit. Visitors batsmen have struggled in recent times and that the main reason behind their failure off late. Kushal Perara was the standout batsman in the last T20 series against Australia and he would look to contribute more. It will be difficult to ask for Sri Lanka to defeat India in their own fortress, however, they would be eager to change the existing trend by registering the victory in the second T20 game of the series.

India’s batting line-up is one of the best in the game at present. Notably, the top three have been doing the bulk of the scoring in recent times. The man in form and opener Rohit Sharma has been rested for the series. In his absence, Shikhar Dhawan will form the opening pair with K L Rahul. All eyes will be on Shikhar Dhawan as returning from the injury. He would be eying to get a big score under his belt. On the other hand, K L Rahul has been in great form in recent times and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He has scored fifty in three out of the last four games. He would look to carry on the good form.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli is arguably one of the best batsmen in the game. He averages 52 in T20. His batting exploits always make him the biggest threat for any opponent team. He is India’s leading run-scorer in last year, scored 466 runs in the last 10 games at an average of 77.66.
The number four batsman Shreyas Iyer has also done well in the limited opportunity at the international level. It would be a good opportunity for him to seal his place in the top 4. In the all-rounders, R Jadeja and W Sunder will play a big role in both batting and bowling. R Jadeja has already proved his mettle in international cricket with his wicket-taking delivery and hard-hitting ability.
On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to share the new cherry with Navdeep Saini. The former has shown the ability to move the ball both ways, outsmarting the batsmen. He is one of the best T20 bowlers in cricket. Possessing a compelling T20I record, Kuldeep Yadav is likely to be lead spinner in the side. He holds a strong T20 record and also picked his second T20 hat-trick in the last series versus West Indies.

Isuru Udana scored 185 runs at an average of 37.00 from last 9 T20 games.
Batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa has profited massively from the mass boycott of Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan by senior players.
In their absence, he hit 77 from 48 balls in the second game and hit 96* for Comilla Warriors in the BPL just before joining this tour. He would look to carry on good form. Other batsmen like Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando and Oshada Fernando also needs to step up and score runs. They need to make the most of the opportunity.
The bowling attack will be led by veteran Lasith Malinga. He is arguably one of the best T20 bowlers in cricket. He possesses great accuracy in bowling Yorker and slower delivery.
