Poonam Yadav has been the pick of the bowlers; she picked nine wickets from four games. India Women would be riding high on confidence following their success in the ongoing tournament. They have defeated Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand while defending the score and in the last group game against Sri Lanka, Women in blue chased the target easily with seven wickets in hand. The major concern for India would be the poor-form of their prime players like Smrithi Mandhan and skipper H Kaur. India’s batting unit needs to click collectively if they have to beat formidable England Women's side.
In batting, Shafali Verma has been the lone fighter for India; she scored 161 runs from four-game at an average of 40.25. She has played an impact knock in all the earlier four games. A lot would depend on this youngster to lead the batting unit in the crucial game of the event. There will be extra pressure on her considering the failure of India’s prime batsmen Smriti Mandhana. The southpaw managed to score just 38 runs from three games. That is well below average for the player of her caliber. She needs to step up and provide a good opening stand with Shafali. Skipper H Kaur failed to make a mark in an event. However, she got plenty of experience playing in T20 and her experience would be vital in the knockout game. She is also due for a big knock. In the lower order, Deepi Sharma can swing the bat and score some runs. JI Rodrigues has been India’s second-best batsmen with just 85 runs from four games.
On the bowling front, Poonam Yadav, S Pandey, R Yadav were brilliant in the execution in earlier games. Bowling unit did a great job to put India in commanding position in the point table. After winning the inaugural Women’s T20 world cup in 2009 England Women team has failed to reclaim the title in the last three world cup. In the last 2018 world-cup, England women were the runner-up team and they would be eying for another world-cup final.
In batting, likewise opponent, England would be relying heavily on their in-form batsmen; NR Sciver and HC Knight to do the bulk of the scoring. The batting-duo on their own led the England innings in all the earlier four games. NR Sciver (202 runs ) and HC Knight (193 runs) are the top-two leading scorer respectively in the tournament. Batting duo averages 60+ in the event and it truly justifies their batting dominance in the event. However, they got very little support from other specialist batsmen in the unit. A Jones with just 48 runs from four games is the third-best England batsman and it truly justifies the gravity of NR Sciver and HC Knight good batting-form in the semifinal.
