The Indian team will be very cheerful after their convincing T-20 series win against visitors. India’s batting unit is very strong and they have consistently performed in recent times. At the top, India’s got present ICC best ODI batsmen, Smriti Mandana. She has been in stupendous form at the international level. She got great skills and temperament to bat long and score big runs. She scored 1951 runs in ODI at an average of 42.41. Though she had a very decent outing in the T-20 series, it is the biggest threat for the opponent team. Mithali Raj is going to come back to the ODI side. She is the most veteran player in the ODI squad, besides with 6720 runs, she is also the leading scorer in ODI. A lot would depend on this batting duo to score the most of the runs.
In the middle order, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodriguez are going to play a big role. Both has got huge success in the last year and they would be keen to carry on the good form. On the bowling front, Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav, Jhulan Goswami, and Ekta Bisht are likely to form the bowling attack. With 218 wickets, Jhulan Goswami is the leading wicket-taker in the ODI. After losing the T-20 series, South Africa Women team will look for a strong comeback in this ODI series. In the batting department, Lizelle Lee and Mignon du Preez were in stupendous form in the T-20 series. With 190 run Lizelle Lee was the leading scorer whereas Mignon du Preez was the second-best with 122 runs from 5 games.
Batting duo has better become acclimatized to the conditions and also got great success against Indian spinners. The team would be relying heaving on this duo to the scorer the bulk of the runs. Proteas also got two genuine all-rounder-skipper Sune Luus and Nadine de Klerk. They provide depth in south Africa batting and also provide quality twenty-20 overs spell among them. The bowling attack will be lead by Shabnim Ismail. She bowled superbly in the recent T-20 series against India; picked 10 wickets from five games. T Sekhukhune and S Luus will be other quality bowlers in the side. Bowling unit needs to be more disciplined against batting heavy Indian team. The weather forecast for Wednesday in Vadodara looks very sunny and clear and there is no rain forecast for the rain.
The wicket expected to be good for batting. The spinners will get assistance off the surface as the game progresses. Average first inning score is 268 whereas in the second inning it is 234.
Out of last 13 ODI played at this venue, 6 were won by batting first while 7 games by the chasing team. However, as it is the first match of the ODI series and pitch will be fresh, the team would be looking to chase the score.Hence, the team winning the toss would look to bowl first at this venue.
We expect it to be a thrilling contest as both the team got a heavy batting unit and a decent bowling attack. However, India will have a slight advantage of the home conditions and they possess great spin options, which are very vital in the Indian pitches. Besides, statically India got a 62% ODI win record against South Africa. Hence, our prediction is India Women team will win the first match of the three-match ODI series.
