South Africa Women have had a disastrous tour of India so far. They lost the T20 series 3-1 and didn’t make the desired start to the three-match ODI series where they suffered a huge defeat at the hands of India Women going down by 8 wickets in what was an ordinary performance from their batters.
The Indian team had started as favorites in the ODI series and lived up to the expectations outplaying South Africa in all departments of the game. The tour so far has exposed several weaknesses in the South African Women squad. Their batting has been poor and this has led to their downfall in most of the games. They have a poor record against the Indians in these conditions and this is likely to play in their minds ahead of the next game. It will be interesting to see how the batters fare in the next game after a string of failures on this tour.

It was an impressive show that India Women put up in the first ODI of the series. Skipper Mitali Raj would be very happy with the performance of her girls especially her bowlers who didn’t allow the South Africans to settle in. Having won the first game the side would be looking to seal the series in the next game. Priya Punia and Jemimah Rodrigues hit half-centuries to set up the win for the side in the last game. Both the players toyed with the South African attack in the game earning the victory.
The batting order is strong for the side with Punam Raut and Mitali Raj in the middle order. Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma and Shikha Pandey make the lower middle order very strong for the team and will look to do well in the next game. Jhulan Goswami has been a proven campaigner for the Indian side and she bowled well in the last game along with Shika Pandey destroying the South African top order. Ekta Bisth, Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav also kept the line tight in the game troubling the South Africans. They would look to continue with the same form in the next game.

Suné Luus would have been extremely upset with the form of her players in the last game. After choosing to bat on a good surface her batters let the side down with an ordinary show with the bat. They failed to apply themselves during the game which resulted in their loss. With a series to save the skipper would be looking for better performance from her girls. Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp did well with the bat as there was hardly any support from other batters in the game. Lizelle Lee went off early while Trisha Chetty, Mignon du Preez and Luus failed to convert their starts.
The side would need better show from these players if they are to stand against the strong bowling attack that Indians have. Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp bowled tight lines in the last game but with a small total to defend they were unable to cause any trouble for the Indians. Ayabonga Khaka, Tumi Sekhukhune and Nadine de Klerk have done well on this tour with the ball and shall look to carry on with the same form in the next game.

It is expected to be clear skies at Vadodra on October 11 with odd clouds in the sky and average humidity. The conditions would be perfect for the game. The pitch is expected to be a good one to bat on where fast bowlers won’t have much support. The side batting first would target a total of 280 plus to feel comfortable on this surface.
Reliance Stadium Vadodra is a batter’s paradise. The wicket has true bounce and pace which allows batters to hit through the line. There isn’t much assistance for the fast bowlers unless conditions are perfect. The spinners enjoy bowling on this surface as the ball bounces and turns sharply as it gets older.
The pitch would be a batting surface as we have seen in the last game even though the South African team was bowled out for a small total. The pace and bounce is true and the side winning the toss would want to bat first on this surface.
It is a must-win game for South Africa Women to save the series. They have done well only in parts during the tour. Their susceptibility against the spin attack has been exploited by India Women in all the games played so far. The bowlers have done the job well for the visitors but the batters have been in bad form. India Women, on the other hand, have done well in all departments of the game. Going into the next one the home side would start as favorites given the strength in their bowling.
