A charged-up India Women team would take on South Africa Women in the second game of the five-match T20 series. In the first game played at the same venue Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat the Indian team successfully defended a small total of 130 runs to win the game by 11 runs. It was a bad day for the visitors whose batting line-up wasn’t able to stand up against the disciplined show with the ball by the Indian team.
South Africa Women haven’t had a great run against India in the past and have managed to defeat them only once. The demoralizing loss in the last game would surely play on their minds. The Indian team would come hard at the South Africans and the visitors would have to play out of their skins to win the next game.

Harmanpreet Kaur would have been very happy to see her bowlers defend the small total successfully after the batters had disappointed in the last game. Having got the upper hand over the South Africans in the first game Kaur would want her players to continue with the same form in the next game. Kaur played well for her 43 in the last game but there was hardly any support from the other end. Openers Shafavi Verma and Smriti Mandhana need to provide the side with a good start. Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Veda Krishnamurthy shall need to bat well down the order for the side to put up a big score on the board. It was a dominating bowling performance from the Indian side in the last game where Shikha Pandey, Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav tied down the South Africans and didn’t let them score. The trio would look to carry the same form into the next game and expect good support from Pooja Vastrakar and Harmanpreet Kaur from the other end.

Suné Luus would have been terribly upset with the kind of performance her team put up in the last game. They had pushed India Women to the corner while bowling but failed to stand up to the challenge with the bat. Being 0-1 down in the series the pressure is now on them. Luus will have to inspire her girls to come out of this mess before the next game. It was a batting failure at the top that resulted in their loss. Tazmin Brits and Lizelle Lee got out early to put the side in trouble. Laura Wolvaardt and Nadine de Klerk also didn’t trouble the scorers much during the game. Mignon du Preez was the only batter who stood her ground. The top order will have to deliver and so will Luus and Nondumiso Shangase towards the end of the innings.
Their bowlers did a wonderful job in the last game especially Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka. The pair didn’t allow the Indians to settle and shall look to continue with the same form in the next game. Tumi Sekhukhune and Nadine de Klerk also looked in great form. The side would hope to see better line and length from Nonkululeko Mlaba and Nondumiso Shangase in the upcoming game.

It would be cloudy skies at Surat on September 26 and the weatherman also have predictions for showers during the game. The pitch would be a challenging one to bat on as we have seen in the first game. The fast bowlers would enjoy initial seam and swing. A score of around 150 runs would be a good total on this surface.
Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat is a good surface for batting in good weather conditions. The track does offer assistance to the fast bowlers but there aren’t too many demons on the surface to trouble the batsmen. The shorter boundaries in the ground make it good for big hitting. Spinners get good turn and bounce on this surface.
The pitch is likely to be slightly tricky to bat early on. Like the last game the ball is expected to move around in the initial overs. With predictions for rains which can benefit the side batting second the captain winning the toss would prefer to bowl first on this surface.
India Women started as favorites in this series and the side didn’t disappoint their fans in the last game. After failing to impress with the bat the side was excellent with the ball. The batting show that the South Africa Women put up would have hurt their confidence. The side is finding it difficult to adjust with these conditions. Going by the form the two sides are in at the moment we expect the Indians to win this game.
