India Women would take on South Africa Women in the first game of the five-match T20 series at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat.
India Women would start confidently in the game with better knowledge of the home conditions as well as a team that has played well in the last two seasons. South Africa Women would face the challenge of the weather and India’s determined side and shall need to play exceptionally well to defeat them in their own den. South Africa Women don’t have the best of records against the Indian team: they have managed only a single win against the Indian in the five games that the two sides have played. They have the baggage of never having won a game on Indian soil. To win this game the South Africa team will need to come up with its best performance ever against a confident home side.

Harmanpreet Kaur would be confident going into this game against South Africa Women. She is leading an exciting team that has good strength in all departments. The Indian skipper would be aware of the fact that South Africa Women don’t have the best of records in these conditions and she would focus on exploiting those weaknesses. The batting line-up looks strong for the Indian side with Harleen Deol and Smriti Mandhana at the top of the order. The pair has done well.
In the middle order, they have good strength with skipper Kaur, Veda Krishnamurthy and Shikha Pandey in the side. Deepti Sharma and Anuja Patil add strength to the side at the lower end.
As far as bowling is concerned the side would rely on Deepti Sharma and Mansi Joshi to pick wickets with the new ball. Poonam Yadav and Arundhati Reddy have also been bowling well in the recent games and they would look to trouble the South African side. The hosts would use their spin attack to good use during the game.
Smriti Mandhana, Veda Krishnamurthy, Taniya Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Poonam Yadav, Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, Pooja Vastrakar
Suné Luus would be happy with the way her side played in the practice game and would like to carry the same form into the next game. The weather is expected to be cloudy and humid at Surat on September 24 and there may be slight showers. The pitch has soaked in moisture over the last few days and shall offer early assistance to the fast bowlers. Batters who set their eyes in would do well on this surface and a score of 150 runs would be a fighting total.
Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat would host the first T20 international. A small ground by Indian standards it is known to have a pitch that offers assistance to the fast bowlers. Small boundaries on the square make it a good ground for scoring. Spinners have done well here in domestic games and are expected to do well.
It is an evening game and the pitch is likely to remain the same for the entire course of the game. The ball is likely to move slightly more in the second half of the game. The captain winning the toss would be happy batting first and putting up a big score on the board.
India Women have had an upper hand against South Africa Women in the five games that have seen results between the two sides. The Indian side has won four of those and many of them by big margins. Though South Africa Women have won the practice game they would be facing a tough opponent going into this game. With the knowledge of the home conditions and a slightly more balanced line-up, the Indian team would start as favorites to win this game.
