NMBG's bowling unit is attributed by the combination of pace and spin with Dala, Morris and Tahir in the team. Their washed-out game against Tshwane Spartans meant that the star opener Jason Roy has to wait before he could score his first runs in MSL 2019. Heino Kuhn, Farhaan Behardien at the middle order provide the required stability to the team’s batting.
Three back to back losses jolted MSL 2018 champions Jozi Stars. JS already lost the previous encounter against NMBG at Port Elizabeth. Also, they failed to chase twice, in home and away games, against last year’s runners-up team Cape Town Blitz. The team heavily relies on the sensational Chris Gayle and strike bowler Rabada – both are yet to put up an impressive show, which is a concern for the team management.

They started MSL 2019 campaign with the tag of defending champions, but they are yet to win a match in this tournament. They played three games so far and lost all three. In the season opener, the bowlers went for plenty of runs as Cape Town Blitz eventually scored 213 runs. Though, they were not too far from the target at the end of their 20 overs, in which the Starts scored 198 runs, losing it by just 15 runs. Hendricks played remarkable innings of 53 balls 80 runs, while the skipper played at the strike rate of 253.33, to score his 38 runs. Against Bay Giants in the second game, Rabada (2 for 27) and Harmer (2 for 30) restricted the opponents under 170.
Hendricks’ second consecutive half-century and Bavuma’s another 30’s score went in vain as the side failed to chase the target even though they had five wickets in hands. In the away game with Cape Town Blitz, the bowlers once again conceded plenty of runs as CTB put up a heavy score of 183 runs, which the Stars failed to chase once again.
Coetzee took 2 wickets, but he was expensive with 42 runs. Phangiso took 1 wicket conceding just 17 runs from his 3 overs. Bavuma scored a half-century (42 balls 62) but he lacked support from his fellow batsmen, eventually, they were all out for 126 runs in 16.2 overs. Reeza Hendricks (408 runs in the last 10 matches, average 51.00, SR 132.03) is the key batsman. Rassie van der Dussen has been impressive too with his 361 runs in the last 10 games. With 10 wickets in the last 10 games, Kagiso Rabada is the prime bowler for Jozi Stars.

In MSL 2018 group-stage, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants had won four of their 10 games and couldn’t make it to the playoffs. This year, they opened their account by defeating MSL 2019 title winners Jozi Stars by 24 runs.
Batting first, they lost Jason Roy right in the second ball of the first over. His opening partner Breetzke scored 15 balls 23 which included a six. It's the fight between second-placed NMBG and bottom-ranked JS. Jozi Stars are desperately waiting to earn their first win, after three disappointing losses, all while chasing. Nelson Mandela Bay Giants looked good in their previous two games. While they won against Jozi Stars at Port Elizabeth comfortably, in the washed-out game against Tshwane Spartans also they looked in control of the game. Bay Giants look more balanced team this season, unlike Jozi Stars who rely more on Gaye and Rabada. Our prediction is that Nelson Mandela Bay Giants will defeat Jozi Stars once again and make it 2-0.
