Mzansi Super League, the premier T20 cricket tournament in South Africa, is nearing the end of the league stage.
Paarl Rocks are currently in the top 2, while last year finalists Jozi Stars are lingering at the bottom of the table with 6 losses. Jozi Stars and Paarl Rocks have met 4 times till now in MSL League with one match abandoned. Rocks have won 2 of the 3 completed encounters including the previous one this year by 4 wickets.
Last year, Paarl Rocks were heartbroken when the Eliminator was a washout against Jozi Stars that allowed the Stars to move into the finals. Paarl Rocks have made great strides this season and would be looking to beat hapless Jozi Stars for the second time in this season to regain supremacy at the top of the table. Jozi Stars, on the other hand, would like to end the search for a victory this season.

Jozi Stars are having a nightmare in this season of MSL. After playing 6 games this seasons the last year finalists are still struggling to register their first win. Their bowling looks toothless and the batting has shown complete lack of intent till now in this season. The stars managed 129 for the loss of just 3 wickets batting first against the Rocks earlier this season. The Stars would have hoped for a much better score with 7 wickets in hand batting first.
Similarly, against the Giants, they were restricted to under 143 chasing 168 with 5 wickets in hand. It is absurd to lose a T20 game by over 20 runs keeping 5 wickets in hand. The pointless standing in the points table looks even worse considering the fact that they have 2 batters in Reeza Hendricks and Temba Bavuma in the top 5 runs getters of the tournament. Except for the match against Cape Town Blitz, where Jozi Stars managed 198 in a losing cause, they failed to cross 150 in the remaining 5 encounters with a top score of just 143 against Giants.
In the bowling department, they have taken 29 wickets compared to 43 given to the oppositions. They are in a sorry state at the moment and look completely down and out. However, with nothing to lose now, they might prove to be a dangerous team to play against.

Three consecutive wins against Jozi Stars, Cape Town Blitz, and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants had propelled Paarl Rocks to the top of the table based in NRR. However, a crushing defeat against the Spartans, by 8 wickets with 5 overs to spare, has brought them down to the second spot in the points table. The Rocks have been defeated twice in this tournament so far. Both times by Tshwane Spartans. Both times by 8 wickets.
They have James Vince in the top five run-getters of the tournament and Tabraiz Shamsi in the top 5 wicket-takers. The Rocks have not been exceptional this season, however, they won most of the key moments to be where they are at this stage of the tournament. Faf has been leading them well. He has over 200 runs in the last 9 games. Cameron Delport has been in good form as well with 189 runs in the last 9 games at the strike rate of 160. Tabraiz Shamsi has been their top bowler this season.
Paarl Rocks must be aware that the top team gets direct entry to the Final in MSL whereas the second-ranked team has to play the eliminator. They would fancy their chances against Jozi Stars to regain the top spot at Wanderers.

The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg is the home venue for Jozi Stars. This iconic ground in South Africa has hosted 2003 it hosted the World Cup final. This has been the venue where South Africa successfully completed the highest chased in ODI cricket when they chased 434 against Australia.
The Wanderers is a small ground and has a batting-friendly surface. You have to score well in the first inning though in order to have any chance of defending the total. Scores of under 150 are never defended in the T20 Internationals played here. It would be safer to bowl first in such conditions and plan the chase on a decent batting surface based on the target. Thus, teams winning the toss should look to Bowl first.
This is a match between the 2nd placed team of the tournament – Paarl Rocks - against a team – Jozi Stars – who are still without a win this deep in the league stage. The Rocks would be aiming to regain the top spot whereas the Stars would finally like to have something to cheer for. Jozi Stars need to work on their batting intent in order to have any impact on the game. Paarl Rocks seem to be a balanced side and are making all the right decisions at the moment.
Thus, we predict Paarl Rocks would defeat Jozi Stars at Wanderers!
