Melbourne Renegades Women have lit the WBBL 2019-20 season alive after registering a thrilling win against table-toppers Brisbane Heat Women. In what was perhaps the most unexpected win of this season, Melbourne Renegades pulled off a record chase of 184 against the best team of the tournament. That win has now taken their points tally to 12 and improved their Net Run Rate to -0.003. The Renegade has thus kept their semi-final hopes alive and another performance like this will certainly keep them in good stead.
Melbourne Stars Women, meanwhile, is having the worst possible time this season. They are placed at the bottom of the points table with just 2 wins and 10 losses in 12 games with a horrible Net Run Rate of -0.765. They are now well and truly out of the race for the final four spots and will only be hoping to save some face in the last 2 games. Interestingly, they defeated Renegades Women by 7 wickets when the two teams met previously in the season. However, the Renegades might be too hot to handle for them right now.

Melbourne Stars Women have had very few things going for them this season. Their batting has been overwhelmingly dependent on a few players. Opener Lizelle Lee (389 runs in 12 games) has been their star performer this season and has struck 1 hundred and 3 fifties. South Africa's Mignon du Preez (400 runs) has been even better and has been instrumental in holding the batting unit together. She even struck a fluent 55 in the last match against Sydney Thunder Women and would be eager to continue that form.
Captain Elyse Villani (274 runs) has been the other lead batting star for the team. However, the middle and lower order haven't contributed much and that has affected the team's overall performance. What has really led the Melbourne Stars Women, though, is their bowling. Only one bowler - Madeline Penna - has taken 10 or more wickets.
The rest have simply not been able to take responsibility. The likes of Erin Osborne, Annabel Sutherland, Holly Ferling, Alana King and Nicola Hancock have been huge disappointments. They have been inconsistent and have regularly leaked runs. This has been the biggest bane for the Melbourne Stars and is likely to hurt them against a strong batting line up of Melbourne Renegades.

Melbourne Renegades Women will be on a real high after that record chase against table-toppers Brisbane Heat. Danielle Wyatt's sensational 87 off 55 balls and captain Jessica Duffin's 50 off 27 balls were the key performances in that game.
Out of nowhere, the Renegades now find themselves back in contention and will be going all out against the Melbourne Stars. The Renegades will look to their batting lineup again to deliver the goods. Along with Wyatt, who now has 418 runs in the season, and Duffin, the other players who can have an impact in this game will be Tammy Beaumont (253 runs) and Courtney Webb (163 runs). However, if these four don't click, then the Renegades Women might be in trouble as the other batswomen haven't been consistent.
Melbourne Renegades' bowling is decent but they do end up conceding a lot of runs every now and then. Seamer Maitlan Brown (14 wickets) and off-spinner Molly Strano (15 wickets) have been leading the bowling unit for the team this season and will be continued to be relied upon. Danielle Wyatt opened the bowling in the last game and returned with figures of 2-26 in 3 overs. The English all-rounder will be handy on this pitch. Another bowler who can have an impact is Kiwi seamer Lea Tahuhu.
