In the first two seasons of TNPL, SNP was the least successful team. In 2018, they turned the table and became the champions, defeating Dindigul Dragons in the final. They started their 2019 campaign on a winning note against Jones TUTI Patriots. But they lost two consecutive matches to Dindigul and Kanchi Veerans. Ruby Trichy Warriors are going through tough times as they are yet to taste success this season. Thought they had put up a good show in their first game against Karaikudi Kaalai, the other two matches they lost without offering any challenge. For both the teams, winning this game is very much critical.

The champions of TNPL 2018, Madurai Panthers won their first game this season by chasing down TUTI Patriots’s 124. Arun Karthik (42 balls 65) and A Sarath Raj (33 runs) ensured the team’s victory by 9 wickets and 46 balls remaining. Earlier, L Kiran Akash and R Mithun shared 6 wickets among themselves to restrict Patriots under 125.
Against Dindigul Dragons in the second game, except RS Shah (3 wickets for 21), all other bowlers conceded more than 8 runs per over and allowed Dragons to cross 180 runs. With none of their batsmen crossing 30, they failed in the run-chase and eventually lost the match by 30 runs.
Against Kanchi Veerans, they opted to bat first after winning the toss, however, they could just post the total of 139 runs on the board. Shijit Chandran made 39 off 36 but he did not get enough support from his fellow batsmen. The Veerans achieved the target without any hassles, by 7 wickets in 19th over. The Panthers need a win now to stay in the contest and they have a chance to do so against bottom-ranked Warriors in this match.
With one half-century, Arun Karthik has scored maximum runs (90 runs in 3 matches) for SMP in the tournament, at an average of 45 and strike rate of 134.33. Kiran Akash (6 wickets in 3 games) is Madurai’s top wicket-taking bowler.

RTW has won just 7 games in 24 matches they played so far in all the seasons of TNPL, and more than 50% of their wins came in just one season – TNPL 2018. RTW played better cricket in the first match of this season against Karaikudi Kaalai. They had leveled KK’s 171 runs while chasing in 20 overs, however, they lost the match in the super over after scoring 11 runs, which KK chased in 4 balls off Sai Kishore’s over.
In the second game, RTW bowlers restricted Chepauk Super Gillies under 150 runs but against CSG’s R Alexander, their batsmen collapsed like pack of cards. Except for AD Barooah (29 runs), none of the recognized batsmen scored in two digits. Medium-pacer P Saravan Kumar’s (22 in 18 balls) efforts lower down the order was not sufficient after the batting debacle, and they lost the game by a big margin of 41 runs.
In the third game, they lost to Lyca Kovai Kings by 26 runs while chasing 162 runs. Three of their batsmen got a good start but they all failed to convert their scores in a half-century. At least one of them - S Aravind (21 runs), AD Barooah (27 runs) or Adithya Ganesh (24 runs) - needed to stay till the end to accomplish the run chase. Such batting failures are proving to be disastrous for the team and their hopes to enter the knock-out round for the first time. Aditya Barooah is the top scorer for RTW, in three matches he scored 72 runs at an average of 24 and strike rate of 102.86. With 6 wickets in 3 matches, P Saravan Kumar is the leading wicket-taker.

The venue for this match is NPR college Ground, Dindigul. Out of 39 T20 domestic games played on this ground, 15 matches are won by the teams batting first while 24 times the teams batting second have won. Highest and lowest scores on this ground are 203/6 (Dindigul Dragons) and 59/10 (Siechem Madurai Panthers) respectively
In this tournament, 3 out of five times the team batting first have won. Anything above 150 will be a good score on this pitch. The team winning the toss should opt bat first.
Head-to-head Ruby Trichy Warriors have won more matches against Madurai Panthers, however, they got those wins during first-two seasons (2016 and 2017), when Madurai Panthers were the worst-performers. Last year, Siechem Madurai Panthers became the champions after defeating Dindigul in the final while the Warriors have never reached the knock-out stage so far in TNPL. In this season, with 3 consecutive losses, RTW are at the bottom of the points table. Overall, Madurai Panthers look a better team than the Trichy Warriors. Thus, we predict that Siechem Madurai Panthers will defeat Ruby Trichy Warriors in this match.
