BBL 2019 is nearing the end of the league stage with about 3 more matches to go for all the teams in the league. In the 47th match of this BBL the defending champions, Melbourne Renegades would clash against Hobart Hurricanes on 21st Jan 2019 at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
Melbourne Renegades have had a terrible BBL so far with just 2 wins in the 11 matches. Hurricanes have fared slightly better with a win more than that of the Renegades. Renegades are already out of the playoffs whereas the Hurricanes still have an outside chance of making it into the top 4. This is a do-or-die game for the Hurricanes and we expect them to give it all in this encounter.

The defending champions finally produced a performance worthy of the champions against Brisbane Heat last night. Thanks to Cameron Boyce’s 4 for 15, the Renegades took 10 wickets for just 36 runs to win comfortably by 44 runs. This has come too little too late though as the Renegades are already out of the playoffs.
After scoring a fighting 164 in the first half the match the Renegades were staring at yet another defeat when Lynn and co. scored 84 for 1 in the powerplay. However, the 7th over proved crucial as Boyce took out the mighty AB de Villiers and Mat Renshaw to reduce the Heats to 86 for 3. The procession continued and in a matter of 8 more overs, Brisbane Heat were all-out for 120. Renegades bowling have been a point of worry for them in this season of BBL. Too many 5-plus wicket losses prove that their bowling lacked the ability to pick up wickets. The match against Brisbane Heat was an exception.
Daniel Christian is leading Melbourne Renegades in the absence of Aron Finch. Cameron Boyce (10 matches 11 wickets) is their leading wicket-taker. Batting would depend on Shaun Marsh (233 Runs – 6 Matches) and Beau Webster (337 Runs – 10 matches).
Key Players – Daniel Christian (c), Shaun Marsh, Daniel Christian
JD Wildermuth, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, Mohammad Nabi, Andrew Fekete, SR Patel, Cameron Boyce, Marcus Harris, BJ Webster, DT Christian, Will Sutherland
Hurricanes did not have an as catastrophic start as Renegades to their BBL campaign this season. They had 3 wins show after the first 6 encounters. However, in the next 5 matches, the Hurricanes lost 4 matches and one match did not yield a result. They still have an outside chance of making it to the playoffs. For that, they would have to win all the remaining matches and still depend on the other teams for their fate.
The margin of defeats tells a lot about how a team is performing. In the last 4 completed matches, the Hurricanes have suffered 3 huge losses – by 5 wickets against Heat, by 4 wickets against the Thunders and by 77 runs against Scorchers. Captain Mathew Wade will be hoping that the do-or-die situation might bring out the best in his team.
Qais Ahmad (11 wickets – 10 matches) and Riley Meredith (10 wickets – 6 matches) are their top bowlers. D'Arcy Short (248 Runs – 6 Matches) and Caleb Jewell (171 Runs – 10 Matches) lead for Hobart Hurricanes in the batting department.
Key Players: Mathew Wade, Riley Meredith, Qais Ahmad
Scott Boland, Nathan Ellis, Thomas Rogers, Clive Rose, Matthew Wade, David Miller, Ben McDermott, J Doran, Mac Wright, George Bailey, Qais Ahmad
On Tuesday, the weather at Docklands Stadium is forecasted to have some passing morning showers. The precipitation throughout the day is expected to be about 56%. The daytime temperature will be around 21°c and nighttime temperature would be around 15°c. The slightly overcast conditions may help the seamers.
Docklands Stadium, Melborne
The venue for the match is Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. Since 2006 Australia have stopped using this venue for ODIs and the venue has primarily been used for BBL matches. The matches so far at this venue have been low scoring ones with the chasing team winning 2 of the three matches.
The team winning the toss should bowl first here.
This is a match between the teams at the bottom of the table one of them being the defending champions. Both, Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes are desperate for a win here. Renegades want to salvage some pride whereas the Hurricanes are looking to keep themselves alive in the tournament in this do-or-die contest. Despite Renegades' recent win against Brisbane Heat, the Hurricanes look to have an upper hand in this match.
Thus, we predict Hobart Hurricanes to win the match against Melbourne Renegades.
