An in-form Melbourne Stars will look to squash their arch-rivals Melbourne Renegades in their second faceoff of the season. Stars, led by Glenn Maxwell, have won four matches in a row and can be vouched to script a fifth amidst the conditions of Docklands. On the other hand, Melbourne Renegades have had a forgettable run this time around with losses in every single contest played so far.
The Men in Red haven’t been able to click as a unit which has been the cause of their failure in BBL 2019-20. The trio of Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, and Kane Richardson have rendered top-notch exhibitions while the remaining have faltered to capitalize on their potential. The defending champions are nearly out of contention to qualify for the knockouts and will look to settle with a victory in the coming game in order to avoid being evicted from the tournament.

Beau Webster ( 236 runs in 7 innings) and Shaun Marsh (235 runs in 7 innings) have been highly consistent with the bat in the ongoing season of BBL. In fact, Webster was in terrific shape in the game against Scorchers wherein he scored a quickfire 73 off 46 deliveries and will be looking to don a similar role at Docklands. Skipper Aaron Finch (191 runs in 7 innings) and opener Sam Harper (195 runs in 7 innings) would be expected to ensure the scoreboard ticking and unleash a flurry of boundaries when needed.
Bowling wise, pacer Kane Richardson who was the leading wicket-taker in the previous edition of BBL has been exhibiting top-notch performances this time as well. In 7 innings played so far, Richardson has grabbed 10 wickets at an average of 18.10, and along with fellow paceman, Richard Gleeson will be banked to topple the rival top-order. Spinners Samit Patel and Cameron Boyce were a bit expensive in the previous outing and could be backed to bounce back in the coming duel.
Sam Harper, TLW Cooper, Shaun Marsh, SR Patel, Joe Mennie, Cameron Boyce, Marcus Harris, Richard Gleeson, BJ Webster, DT Christian, Will Sutherland
Marcus Stoinis has been the most consistent player for the Men in Green in the concurrent edition of BBL. The all-rounder has scored 4 fifties this season and has amassed 331 runs at an average of 66.20 and a strike rate of 121.24. Skipper Glenn Maxwell (228 runs in 7 innings) has led his side upfront and with wicket-keeper, Peter Handscomb (86 runs in 6 innings) will look to score the bulk of runs in the middle overs.
In the bowling department, pacer Haris Rauf (13 wickets in 4 innings) picked a hat-trick in the recent match against Sydney Thunder and will spearhead the bowling attack for the Stars at Marvel Stadium. Nathan Coulter-Nile has been bowling at the desired line and lengths which has assisted his side in numerous instances this season. Spinners Adam Zampa (10 wickets in 7 innings) and Sandeep Lamichhane (6 wickets in 6 innings) have turned the course of the game in the Stars’ favor when under crunch moments and would be expected to wreak havoc with the leg-breaks and googlies in the coming bout
Hilton Cartwright, Lance Morris, Sebastian Gotch, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Haris Rauf, Clint Hinchliffe, N Larkin, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ben Dunk
Clear skies are being predicted in the first half while clouds will take as the game progresses. No chances of rain are being anticipated ensuring a complete 40-overs of the uninterrupted contest. It will be advisable for the team batting first to hit-hard from the very moment and post a total above and beyond 160 as the cloud cover would make it difficult for the batsmen to ensure a successful chase.
The wicket at Marvel Stadium though initially slow flattens out as the match progresses. Although 160 is the average 1st innings total, amidst the predicted conditions, one could expect 150 as a par total on this venue
The toss winning team should look to bat first in the coming game. The weather would suit the batters early on in the contest while the overcast conditions in the latter stages would offer great assistance to the pacers considering the swing and seam movements that could be expected in such conditions.
Melbourne Stars will be the sure-shot favorites in the game at Marvel Stadium. Be it the batting or bowling unit, the Men in Green have been on spot since day one of the ongoing T20 season.
With the form favoring the Stars at the present, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if they manage to thwart a frailing Renegades from scripting their first win in the upcoming duel.
